Anticipation Guide on Capitalization

Warm up:
Why is correct capitalization important to effective writing?

Activity 1:
Students completed the handout "Anticipation Guide for Capitalization, as they viewed a PowerPoint on Capitalization. These handouts will be collected on Friday.

Students read for 15 minutes for pleasure. Focus on 1 article. Read this article carefully and put a sticky flag by the most important sentence in this article.

Activity 2:
Write this sentence on the overhead and have students determine the type of sentence. Have students reword this sentence turning it into the other 3 types of sentences

Activity 3:
Using this sentence on the overhead, as a class determine the part of speech for each word in the sentence.

Daily Homework


My standing homework assignment for each student is:
Read for 30 minutes each night in a challenging chapter book
Collect/respond/react/reflect daily in his/her Write To Learn (3-5 pages per week plus accurate completion of reading log daily)
Maintain a reading list of books read
Find and define 3-5 vocabulary words in context per week

Students who complete this assignment daily will achieve maximum student achievement in the area of language arts.
