CRCT REMINDER : Social Studies Saving the Best for Last!!!!

Do not forget to practice the CRCT online site; your form for documentation and parent signature is posted and is due on Friday. The chapter reviews that we did for each unit and I suggested that you keep for the CRCT would also be helpful to look over to refresh your memory. Friday is our day to test.

In class we are continuing to work in our African history packets and will investigate the apartheid movement and Nelson Mandela.
Next week students will need to bring their textbooks to class. We have at least 3 more chapters to complete before the year is over.

CRCT ONLINE PRACTICE IS UP !!!!

CRCT PRACTICE SITE

Preparing for the CRCT: Required Homework Activity

Practice tests provide students with the opportunity to gain familiarity with the types of questions that they will encounter when they take the CRCT in April. Each test covers all of the major topics in a particular subject area that students are expected to receive instruction in during the current school year. Because the number of questions available on some topics is limited, certain questions may appear on more than one practice test. For students who do not have Internet access computers are available in the Media Center in the mornings.

Directions…. go to the website:

Social Studies icon, tests have been created by Mrs. Glenn and Mrs. Baylor.

Do ALL of the five practice tests listed.
You do not need to do them at once. There are 2-100 questions on each test. Complete the tests until you get them ALL correct!

Read each question carefully and review your score and answers when finished. You may want to take notes. You can actually learn the answers to topics we have not yet had a chance to complete by continuing to retake these tests and note the correct answers.

Spring Break is Over

Jenne art.bmpmud cloth.jpg

We have been studying the ancient kingdoms of Africa and will have a quiz on Thurs. The students have a study sheet of the areas to be covered. Before taking the social studies CRCT,I hope to be able to cover slavery, colonialism and South Africa's apartheid. Most all of the information is being covered in class through streaming video and packets.

I will sending home this week an assignment contract for the students to use for recording their scores from practicing the online CRCT quizzes that Mrs. Glenn and I have developed. It will require your signature once they have been successfully completed.

Our choices for next year's textbook are on display in the Media Center through this Friday. Anyone may stop by and take a peak.

If you have been looking for grades, they have not been posted yet, however I have a ton of them to post and will have them done by this weekend.Any missing grades will need to be completed by the following Thursday.

Last 2 Days in the Mac Lab

Last week we started a newspaper / newsletter research project in the Mac Lab. "Eye on the News" focuses on Israel, all resources were posted on the blog last week with links to Trackstar. Students should be working on typing their information in a word doc / newsletter form or the Pages template on Apple. Projects are due on February 27,2007. Their newsletter will be stapled together but each section will be graded individually. Be careful not to fall into a trap of cutting and pasting information as that is plagiarism. Pictures are encouraged, headlines, and clip art to make it more appealing is also suggested. These should be informative and interesting at the same time. We will have laptops in the room on Monday for any last minute "Annies."

Understanding the Three Major Religions

Religion is like the fashion. One man wears his doublet slashed, another

lace, another plain; but every man has a doublet. So every man has his religion.

We differ about trimming.

South East Asia Research

January 23-26

Today, in the Media Center, we began to research the countries of SE Asia. The students were given specific topics to cover for each country. We will be in the Media Center on Wed. and in the Mac Lab, Thurs. and Friday. The students are working in groups of 2's and 3's. Each child takes a different country and then they will share their information with each other to complete the chart. The children did a wonderful job today, using the Cobb Online Virtual Library and were complimented by the Media Center Specialist as to how quiet they were. All research should be completed by Friday,if not...it unfortunately becomes homework. Four class periods is plenty of time to do the assignment. The chart is on a yellow legal size sheet of paper. Please do not throw it away.Monday the students will be given an assessment activity using their research and then on Tues.1/29 we should begin the Middle East. I have not been able to grade the Chapter Tests yet and i-grade/i-parent has been experiencing various interruptions since its new upgrade. So I will have grades posted as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

India...continued

We have been moving quickly through India, studying the people, their economy and most recently their government.Refer to the posts on the blog from January 2005 and you will find a current physical map of India, just like the one we labelled in class last week. The other links that are there are good for studying, also. We will begin the last section on arts and recreation in class on Thursday and the chapter review.I have scheduled the test to be no later than Monday 12/18. Our map quiz will be Tues.12/19. All grades and make-up work must be done by Wed.12/20. Numerous students, including myself, have been absent lately due to a virus going around, therefore, let's only worry about reading the lessons, answering the EQ's,the chapter review being completed, chapter test and physical map quiz taken before winter break.
