10/27 Update

We have been slowly working through the presentations on Japan. We should be finished on Monday. Students have been given mini assignments along the way to supplement their understanding of the Japanese history and culture. The Tanka's will be graded this weekend along with 3 other assignments and grades will be posted shortly. Doing a technology project requires more class time then usual and therefore it is difficult to obtain daily grades.
Students had an assignment Thurs. night to write a short essay on "What would you have done?" making the decision on using the atomic bomb or not. They were given primary source documents on Truman's Decision, Gen. Tibbets commentary on board the Enola Gay, a Survivor's Story, and and facts on the effects of the bomb on Japan . Final copy either cursive or typed due Fri. or at the latest Mon.
Have a great weekend!

Case Study on Japan

Topics will be assigned on Monday and students will be paired with a partner to do research on TrackStar, a school approved site that is accessible from home, and will have specific websites booked for them to use. The students will have a choice as to the type of presentation they wish to do: powerpoint, keynote, podcast, or an i-movie. ( all using still photographs ) We will be in the Mac Lab Mon.-Thurs., and will have access to laptops during conference week. We are limited on time; therefore I am encouraging perfect attendance for those 2 weeks. The students will be responsible for teaching an in depth look at Japan to their classmates. A rubric will be provided at the start of the project so they will know what to expect and how to attain a specific grade. This should be an exciting project ! In the meantime, check our Global Learning on the school's webpage and learn about Dr. Tyson's experiences in Japan.
