Welcome to 6th Grade Math: Mathematics Applications and Connections

I love Math!! It is a wonderful world of mystery and discovery, patterns and connections. Math is also very constant, so everything we learn will be used over and over again. Becoming a “Math Thinker” is our solution to the mysteries in this exciting world of numbers; formulas and rules are the clues we use to unlock the mysteries.

We will begin the year working with the State Standard: M6N
Students will understand the meaning of the four arithmetic operations as related to positive rational numbers and will use these concepts to solve problems.

Throughout the year our focus will be on:
Knowledge (Vocabulary, formula, rules)
Understanding (Relationships, patterns, connections)
Proficiency (Accuracy in problem solving)
Application (Problem solving with a strong emphasis on word problems)
