Math homework 11/28/05

It is great to have everyone back. This class was ready to go this morning and we accomplished a lot.

HOMEWORK: Complete Study Guide for Test. Have your parents sign your weekly quiz from 11/14-18, and on your progress report.

I will have Math study sessions Tues., Wed., and Thurs. of this week. Students who wish to attend should report to the theater at 8:15. Students attending STARS early morning classes should attend their STARS class.

We will have a test Wed., and we are using Monday and Tuesday class time to review for the test.

Math homework 11/14/05

Ask for parent signature on last week's "Weekly Quiz".
Complete Lesson 32, Decimal place value. SYW.
Quiz tomorrow over the Decimal Chart.

Skills important for working with decimals:
Decimals are another way of writing a fraction = part of a whole.
You read "." as and.
Place value to the right of the decimal; tenths, hundredths, thousandths, ...
Rounding decimals.
Read and write decimals.
When adding and subtracting decimals; line up the decimals and bring the decimal straight down into your answer.
When multiplying decimals; count the number of places behind the decimal in both numbers and move the decimal left in the answer.
When dividing decimals by whole numbers; move the decimal straight up into the quotient.
When dividing decimals by decimals; sweep the outside decimal to the right - sweep the inside decimal the same number of places, then move the decimal straight up into the quotient.

Complete the Equation worksheet, SYW. Remember to show your answer as "w = 8". Put your answer on a simple number line and tell if the number is a whole number (W) and/or rational number (R).

Next week we will begin working with decimals.

Workbook practice page, Section 1-5, odd problems. If you write large, on a separate sheet of notebook or graph paper, write the problems and "bring down". If you write small you can work in the workbook and "bring down". Remember your Order of Operations - P E M D A S

Example: Solve if W=13
W + 12 =
13 + 12 = 25

We will have weekly quiz problems directly from Wed. and tonight's homework and the three vocabulary words; equation, variable, and equal sign.

Math homework 11/7/05

Complete Set J worksheet, rewriting the fraction problems on a separate sheet of graph or notebook paper, SYW. Complete the back, equation problems, on the worksheet, SYW. "Bring down" the answer.
Example:
3 + R = 9
R = 6

Quiz Wed over new vocabulary words and tonight's homework.
