Skills important for working with decimals:

Decimals are another way of writing a fraction = **part of a whole**.

You read "." as **and**.

Place value to the right of the decimal; ten**ths**, hundred**ths**, thousand**ths**, ...

Rounding decimals.

Read and write decimals.

When adding and subtracting decimals; line up the decimals and bring the decimal straight down into your answer.

When multiplying decimals; count the number of places behind the decimal in both numbers and move the decimal left in the answer.

When dividing decimals by whole numbers; move the decimal straight up into the quotient.

When dividing decimals by decimals; sweep the outside decimal to the right - sweep the inside decimal the same number of places, then move the decimal straight up into the quotient.
