Skills important for working with decimals:
Decimals are another way of writing a fraction = part of a whole.
You read "." as and.
Place value to the right of the decimal; tenths, hundredths, thousandths, ...
Rounding decimals.
Read and write decimals.
When adding and subtracting decimals; line up the decimals and bring the decimal straight down into your answer.
When multiplying decimals; count the number of places behind the decimal in both numbers and move the decimal left in the answer.
When dividing decimals by whole numbers; move the decimal straight up into the quotient.
When dividing decimals by decimals; sweep the outside decimal to the right - sweep the inside decimal the same number of places, then move the decimal straight up into the quotient.
