Complete lesson 43, subtracting fractions with borrowing. Show your work on separate notebook or graph paper. Show EACH step.
There will be a daily quiz tomorrow from problems A-H on the homework lesson.

Follow these steps:

  1. Stack the problem - Whole numbers lined-up - Fractions lined-up
  2. Subtract fractions first - If the top fraction is too small - BORROW from the whole number
  3. Change mixed number to an improper fraction
  4. Slide the bottom fraction - over/under the improper fraction - Subtract the fractions
  5. Subtract the whole numbers
  6. Combine the whole number answer and the fraction answer
  7. Simplify the fraction if needed - Box or circle your answer
