BAG - Basics of Algebra 8/29/05

Today we took a quiz over sections 1.2 - 1.5

Skills:-evauate expressions including exponents
-convert expressions to exponents
-solve expressions by substituting values for variables
-solve expressions using the order of operations rules
-solve equations by using the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division properties of equality
-demonstrate the steps used to solve equations
-demonstrate how to check the solution
-convert written expressions and equations to algebraic expressions and equations

Todays assignment is to practice constructions by completing both worksheets. On the 2 sided sheet please omit #8. We will have a quiz on constructions Monday. Logic Puzzle Packets are also due on Monday.

BAG Wednesday, August 24

Homework today is p.10 (13-33odd) and p.14 (15-39 odd). Students may use a calculator to help them on p. 10 ONLY. A worksheet using Order of Operations was given as optional extra credit. This is due by Monday. We will have a quiz over sections 1.2 through 1.5 on Friday of this week.

Don't forget that Open House is on Thursday night at 6:30pm. Hope to see you (parents) then :).

Today we prepared for our test on Geometry, which will be tomorrow. Go over any problems you missed. Try a few of the ones you got right so that you can make sure you still remember how to work them. Get a good night's sleep, bring paper, pencil, and your calculator. See you tomorrow!

GEO Thursday, August 11th

Today students took the pretest. Books were given out. Students may keep books in their locker or at home until August 25th. We will be working with algebra review. Please note that the algebra topics we review will be used throughout the year and it is very important that you understand them. We will have an Algebra Review Test on Friday, August 19th.

Tonight's homework: ws #1; get Syllabus signed and fill out Textbook Contract by Monday.

GEO Class Procedures

Here are the procedures for my Geometry class. These were given out to the students on the back of their syllabus.

Mrs. Bowman’s Policies and Procedures - Geometry
(Keep this sheet in your notebook)

1. Pencils are to be used for all class notes and assignments.

2. Students are required to bring book, notebook, paper and pencil, and all math tools (protractor, compass, calculator, scissors, and ruler) to class each day!

3. Students are expected to write the problem, show all necessary work, and circle their answers.

4. Students are required to keep a notebook.

5. Calculators will be used during the year, at the teacher’s discretion.

6. Students are responsible for ALL missed work when absent from class. It is the students’ responsibility to ask the teacher for makeup work! Any makeup tests or quizzes will be given the day you return from an absence.

7. If a student needs help on an assignment or topic, he/she can see the teacher in the mornings before homeroom or on help session days (Wednesdays) from 8:15 – 8:45.

8. Each day students are expected to be on time to class, go directly to their assigned seat, get out all materials and prepare for the warm-up.

9. Students are to remain seated during class instructions. Students are to pack up only after being given permission by the teacher.

10. Restroom privileges are given before class or during the last 5 minutes of class.

11. All bookbags must be kept under the desk and out of the aisles.

12. Any student caught cheating or allowing another student to cheat off of their paper will receive a zero. Mrs. Bowman WILL NOT tolerate cheating.

Welcome!

Wow! Where did the summer go? I hope you enjoyed your break as much as I did. Since time stops for no man (or woman), the beginning of our school year is already here. I am very excited about this upcoming school year. Everything at Mabry is so new and different! Change is a good thing. We are really going to have fun this year while learning everything you need to know. I am so glad to have you in my class. Your 8th grade year is an exciting one. I am looking forward to working with and getting to know each of you. Together, we will make this a fanastic year. Welcome back to school!
