Tuesday and Wednesday activities

Homework:
Your bones quiz is scheduled for tomorrow. You should know the 20 bones in the diagram in your book?
also--
Be prepared to turn in your "A closer Look at Skin" lab activity on Thursday that was finished on Tuesday. You should have completed the EKG lab in class today. Here are the questions, just in case you did not finish your analysis in class today.
1. The electrocardiogram is a powerful tool used to diagnose certain types of heart disease. Why is it important to look at the time intervals of the different waveforms?
2. What property of heart muscle must be altered in order for an EKG to detect a problem?
3. Based on what you have learned regarding electrocardiograms, can they be used to diagnose all heart diseases or defects? Explain.
4. Describe a cardiovascular problem that could be diagnosed by a cardiologist using an electrocardiogram. (you may need to do a little research for this one if you did not read the handout in class).

Grades update FYI

Wow, I did not realize how behind I was on posting grades to iParent! They are updated now. I know how valuable it is for parents to be informed and I am sorry for the delay this term.

I will post the CRCT online review work (3 homework grades) for all classes and the diatom activity for 3rd and 4th periods by tonight. Students should contact me if they have a question about their grades.

Online CRCT review update

Please complete the CRCT practice by Wednesday for 3 homework grades. (Every four review tests counts as a homework grade.) I am checking online to see how you are doing. Remember to choose Teacher Assigned tests to begin. Take time to review items that you are missing using your book. Each chapter has Study Guide sections that summarize key concepts.

We begin the last major unit- Human Body Systems- this week so take time to carefully study your mistakes and use your book or ask during class if you need clarification on a concept.

I have a few students who are doing the review with hard copies instead of online. Remember that you must check your answers and tell me your % score for each test completed.

Owl Pellets and Diatoms

We enjoyed examining owl pellets and the bones that they contain on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week. Each student team removed the bones, identified them and glued them to a card. Their bone displays and student worksheets were turned in during class on Thursday.

During class on Thursday and Friday, students reviewed some of the concepts from our evolution unit by doing an activity about diatoms in Yellowstone lake. Student teams worked on completing this assignment during class today. Our activity using core samples of colored sugar layers to model the concept was fun and a little messy. The analysis should be completed for homework tonight and will be collected during class on Tuesday. (That includes parts 1, 2, 3, and 4.)

CRCT Review

CRCT week begins on Monday, Arpil 17th. The science portion of the test will be given on Thursday the 20th and students should take some time this week reviewing what we have learned this year. Take about 20 minutes each night to read the summary sections and answer some of the evaluation questions for the chapters that we have covered this year. Remember to do the test prep section at the end too.

I have prepared 12 online practice tests for you to take but am having difficulty getting them to accept your logon info. Please check the blog regularly to see if I have the bugs worked out.
