Owl Pellets and Diatoms

We enjoyed examining owl pellets and the bones that they contain on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week. Each student team removed the bones, identified them and glued them to a card. Their bone displays and student worksheets were turned in during class on Thursday.

During class on Thursday and Friday, students reviewed some of the concepts from our evolution unit by doing an activity about diatoms in Yellowstone lake. Student teams worked on completing this assignment during class today. Our activity using core samples of colored sugar layers to model the concept was fun and a little messy. The analysis should be completed for homework tonight and will be collected during class on Tuesday. (That includes parts 1, 2, 3, and 4.)
