We are beginning our research unit. All students need to bring a set of 100 lined notecards for note-taking. We will have the opportunity to do research in the library each day this week. Please encourage your child to complete research outside of school at the local library and at home as research time in class may not be sufficient. We are learning to cite references, to summarize information, and how to use the MLA style for research documentation. Our notecards will be due next Monday, Dec. 5.

After grading the persuasive and expository essays, my students need an intensive review of recognition and punctuation of complex sentences. I have introduced adjective clauses and relative pronouns. We have had so much fun writing our complex sentences using the individual white boards and markers! On Friday and Monday, we will cover adverb clauses. On Tuesday, we will have a quiz on both. If your child is not present on Tuesday, he or she will need to make up the quiz upon his or her return on Monday, Nov. 27. Have a great Thanksgiving!!!

First, I would like to congratulate my students on their Poe projects. They were very well-done, and many put a lot of time and effort into them. Next, I wanted to let you know the change of time for the Lassiter meeting on November 14th. The meeting will begin at 6:30, NOT 7:00 PM. Lastly, we will begin our expository writing unit next week. The students will be given a prompt for their essays, and they will complete the essays in class. The essays will be due on Monday, Nov. 13th.
