On Monday morning, November 19, the entire 8th grade will visit Lassiter High School for a presentation by members of the Lassiter administration, staff, and student body. This will give our students a glimpse into the opportunities and challenges available to them when they move on to high school. We will ride school busses over and back, with the presentation taking about an hour. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Jackson, the 8th grade counselor.

We will be holding our orientation meeting for parents of rising 6th graders on Monday, May 14. Parents of students receiving gifted or special education services will have small group meetings at 6:00. At 6:30 the building will be open for informal tours. Our general meeting will begin at 7:00 in the theater.

The Mabry PTSA is hosting a cyber-bullying informational meeting presented by Jeff Dess of Prevention Intervention on the evening of Tuesday, April 10th from 7 to 9 pm in the Mabry theater. Mr. Dess will be speaking to ADULTS ONLY regarding the issues surrounding cyber-bullying and other internet concerns facing our children and families today. Please note that no children will be admitted to the theater.

All children entering 6th grade on or after July 1, 2007, are required to meet the following new requirements for immunizations.
1. Have 2 doses of MMR, OR 2 doses of Measles vaccine, 2 doses of Mumps vaccine, and 1 dose of Rubella vaccine OR laboratory proof of immunity.
2. Have 2 doses of Varicella (chicken pox) vaccine OR documentation of disease OR laboratory proof of immunity.
This is a change in the Varicella vaccine requirement. At the time the current 5th graders entered school only 1 dose of this vaccine was required. Please check with your health care provider to receive any needed vaccinations or to obtain an up to date Georgia Certificate of Immunization. (Form 3231).

During the month of December our classroom guidance lesson for all three grade levels will be Career Cruising, an internet based career exploration tool. Students will take an interest inventory, explore how class subject areas relate to individual careers, take an closer look at specific career profiles, or begin to examine the relationship between careers and college programs. Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Haag are more than happy to meet with parents regarding any issues or questions. In order for us to give you the most time and attention possible, please call or email us to make an appointment before coming to the building to see us. It is difficult for us to give you necessary time and attention when you do not have an apppointment. In addition, without an appointment we cannot guarentee that we will be available to meet.
