Density column demonstration using corn syrup, water, vegetable oil, rubbing oil, and food color.
Read p. 116-117 in text and fill out workbook p. 45 (only one class did this today). The other classes will do this on Thursday.

Objective: Earth's interior - list the characteristics of Earth's crust, mantle, and core.

Show basalt and granite for the crust
Mantle will be done on the promethean board
Peanut M&Ms for the Earth and it's layers.

HW: Science Rules Person due or safety quiz tomorrow.

Science Rules Guy/Gal
The science rules person represents a safe scientist. With the template of the science person, decorate and color the person with a minimum of five (5) different kinds of materials. Also, write a minimum of five (5) different safety rules that would go with the materials that you have selected. A key or legend can be used for the rules but is not required.

8/18 (Friday) Safety

-Finish safety skits with discussions.
-Safety contract. Parents need to sign for homework.
-Safety video (19 min.) and write three rules that have not been discussed in class.
-Hand out science guy/gal rubric with template. This will be due on Tuesday. Those that did not choose the project will take a quiz on Tuesday.

HW: Work on science guy/gal. Get safety contract signed.

8/16 DEAR & Syllabus

-Checked agendas and took up letters to Mrs. Davis. For two weeks, we are not counting off for homework that is turned in late. Please check your agendas for your homework assignments. Several students did not have their homework today.
-DEAR - Drop Everything And Read for 30 minutes. All students must read 25 books before May 2007. Mrs. Davis has challenged herself to read 25 books this year.
-Syllabus - went over information.
-Finished up learning styles and getting to know each other.
-4th period - went into the theater for most of the time to listen to Dr. Tyson about some rules such as homework, dress code, behavior etc. He will be giving away an iPod to the student that reads the most books at the end of the year.


HW: Get syllabus signed.

8/15 Introductions, Rules, Learning Syles

Mrs. Davis shook everyone's hands and students told one thing about themselves. Then, students had to introduce themselves by saying "Hello, my name is.... and shaking their hands and finding out questions such as "Do you like broccoli?"

Next, we went over the supplies that will be needed.

8/14 First Day - Homeroom

Students were given their schedules and we went over procedures during the morning extended homeroom time. At 3:40, students went back to homeroom and received the Cobb County folder to go home to parents. Parents should fill out the information and return to the homeroom teacher as soon as possible.

8/1 Welcome to Mabry - 6th graders
I am looking forward to meeting you on Thursday during Charger Day! This is a great time to get your picture taken, buy the yearbook, etc. You will meet your homeroom teacher on this day. We will not have your schedules until the first day of school on the 14th. You can bring your supplies on Charger Day or the first day. Also bring lunch money and know your bus number and lane. Enjoy your last days of summer!
