Winter Concert - 6th, 7th, Symphony

Our first concert of the year will be Thursday, December 15th at 7 p.m. in the Mabry Theater.

This concert will showcase the hard work we’ve done the first half of this year. While we usually have an excellent turnout for our concerts, I hope we can have 100% of parents and students in attendance. We have worked hard this fall and it is always exciting to play for a full house. This concert will feature the performance of the Mabry Symphony.

Please continue reading to learn about concert dress and extra rehearsals.

6th and 7th grade parents and students! Please plan to stay until the end of the performance. The 7th and 8th grade orchestra members will appreciate you being in the audience and I think you will find the growth in skill level from one group to another interesting and inspiring.

IMPORTANT! In order to combine the two 6th and 7th grade classes there will be one extra rehearsal for each grade. Both rehearsals will be on December 13th. The 7th grade orchestra will rehearse from 7:30AM until 8:45AM. The 6th grade orchestra will rehearse from 4:30PM until 6PM. These are important rehearsals that can not be made up as it is the only time to combine the classes that will be performing together in concert. Please make arrangements now to have your child at these rehearsals.

The 6th grade will stay after school the day of the concert for a final run-through. We will have a pizza dinner following the rehearsal. Sixth graders must bring their concert clothes with them to school that morning.

The 7th grade orchestra and the Mabry Symphony should arrive at school no later than 6:15 to tune and prepare for their performance.
Cello and bass players may need to bring their own instruments. Please bring them on Tuesday or Wednesday morning the week of the concert. It will be impossible to tune all those instruments right before we play.

Concert dress for all groups is solid black on bottom, solid white on top. Girls may choose between long black skirt (ankle length or longer) or black pants. Boys will wear long ties. This is a semi-formal event. Sport shoes and t-shirts are not appropriate attire. Students not dressed appropriately will not be allowed to take the stage.

We will need parent chaperones/helpers for the 6th grade pizza dinner at 5:15 and at 6:15 in the band and orchestra rooms and to sit with and actively monitor the groups in the audience before and after they have performed. Please indicate below how you can help.
