February 13-16

Monday we'll kick off our study of the Middle East and North Africa with Chapter 17 which details the geography of the area. Students started on the Chapter Review on Friday, so we'll finish and discuss. Students were also assigned a mini-project, due March 2, to draw a map of the Middle East and North Africa to scale. They have an information sheet detailing the assignment.
Homework tonight that we'll start in class: Farming the Desert.

It's time for 4.5 week reports on Tuesday! Today students will review a number of political, physical and distribution maps of the Middle East. They'll complete an activity entitled "Whereabouts" as they locate the physical features of the Middle East. Homework: " Oil in the Persian Gulf" . Students will create a map key to accompany their own distribution map detailing the net oil imports from the Persian Gulf.

Wednesday we have a special treat! Mrs. Israel-Hiles French class will be down to visit and teach a special lesson on the tradition of Mardi Gras. Half the class will be spent with the 8th grade's presentation, the other half students will create climagraphs as a class using our SmartBoard and the website www.worldclimate.com
Homework: Word Search on Middle East Geography terms.

Thursday we'll explore the Rub Al Khali, or empty quarter of Saudi Arabia and conduct a Crisis Briefing on the water shortage in the Middle East.

Friday is a STUDENT HOLIDAY, as is Monday. So, enjoy your four day weekend and be safe! I'll be at Jekyll all week, so I will see students there.
