On MONDAY we'll discuss the issue of UPFRONT Magazine that students read last week. This should be a lengthy, interactive discussion as students have examined a number of statistics, graphs and charts to determine the standard of living in various Asia countries. Homework: Students will complete an open note essay quiz on Chapter 28 in preparation for the Chapter 28 test on Friday. This assignment is due on Wednesday.
TUESDAY students will have a lesson on human rights abuses in Asia. We'll also discuss Eleanor Roosevelt and her humanitarian contributions in this lesson called "Roosevelt and Rights". We'll continue the discussion about human rights in Asia by examining the lives of many children in this area in a lesson called "South Asia's Shame". We'll also read and discuss an article about child labor, a problem common to many countries we'll study this year.(Next month we'll begin a project to help students understand and take a stand against Child Labor.)
Early Release Day is WEDNESDAY, and that is also DEAR day. Because we have shortened time, we'll only review a lesson entitled "Singapore is Serious". This lesson is about the very strict laws in the country of Singapore. We'll also discuss and collect the open note quiz on Chapter 28.
"Working Together" is the lesson for THURSDAY and addresses the function of APEC.
FRIDAY students will take the test on Chapter 28, the Nations of South Asia. They'll have word search and crossword puzzles to work on next as a way of reviewing all the vocabulary in the Asia unit, which we will thoroughly review next week.
