ACLA2 3/20

We are wrapping up The Wave. Make sure all the literature analysis is completed by Friday of this week. A test will be given on Thursday. Be prepared to take it on Friday if you will be absent the day of the test.

CRCT review will begin after this and will continue until testing.

The re-telling of "The Highwayman" is due this Thursday. If typed, it must be double spaced, Times New Roman; if it's handwritten, it must be in ink and also double spaced.

A test on the ballad will be given on Thursday. Study your class notes.

CRCT review will follow this unit. We will be staying with this until testing takes place. :)

We continued our work with "The Highwayman" analyzing stanzas, going over vocabulary, and discussing figurative language and rhyme schemes.

Tomorrow all students must turn in the pictures of their assigned stanza with the stanza written/typed on the back, and be able to answer questions about it.

Read to the end of chapter 14.

Today we held a mini debate. The class was split in two; one side had to defend the Wave while the other presented the cons. We will continue tomorrow. (I think I have a class full of future lawyers!!!!!!!!!)

3/14

Students design iced cookies with miniature M&M's by following 10 to 15 step directions. These had been written by a classmate. They commented on the directions and then compared their results to the colored picture that had been created by its author.

After a lot of fun and full stomachs, they realized that the simpler the picture, the simpler the directions, the easier it was to follow them!

Verbals tests were returned. They have all been posted on i-parent.

Technical writing continued. Students had a lot of fun designing their cookies, and then they found out that the key to writing clear directions was keeping the cookie design simple!

ALL DESIGNS, DIRECTIONS, AND M&M'S ARE DUE IN CLASS TOMORROW.

*Students who will be away for a connection's field trip MUST TURN IN THE DIRECTIONS FIRST THING THURSDAY MORNING OR BEFORE LEAVING ON THE FIELD TRIP TOMORROW.

Instructions for the technical writing assignment were given out today. We will use most of tomorrow's class time to begin the assignment. All materials will ultimately be due on Wednesday when we will be decorating the cookies. See below for a copy of the instructions.

Continued work on The Wave. Class discussions primarily focused on characters, vocab., and the Nazis and what led to their actions against minorities, especially the Jews.

Students should have read up to the end of chapter 2. Please keep up with main ideas, characterization, theme, etc. Do not wait to do it all at the end of the novel.
