We began discussions on The Pearl with emphasis on literary analysis. Below are some class notes should anyone need to download a copy of them. We will continue with this tomorrow. The test on this novel will not be till next week. Students will be given a specific date for the test tomorrow.

In addition, all students need to be working on their personal speeches. Presentations dates were given out yesterday. These will begin this coming Monday. Everyone has the instructions and expectations in the Writing section of their language arts binders.

8/13 language arts AND ACLA2

Happy first day! We are off to a great start and are excited about this year. Your students were given much information today including expectations, requirements, procedures, etc. etc. I am sure most are on overload!

Here's a recap:

The syllabus is to be read and signed by parents and the student. These are due on Wednesday.
Summer reading logs are due by Friday to their 3rd hour teachers.
The Pearl will be discussed and tested by the language arts teacher. My students need to have the book with them in class by Wednesday.
Three ring binders are required for my class. We wish students to have these in class by tomorrow or as soon as possible since we will be starting to use them then. In addition, 5 dividers are also required, though these may be bought or handmade.
Cobb County folders will go home, and included, you will find a list of the papers your student needs to return to school to their homeroom teacher. We would appreciate these be returned as soon as possible.
Should you have any questions, always feel free to contact me or any other teacher. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach your children this year and invite you to come visit our class at any time.

It is incredible to me that the last week of school is upon us. It has been a wonderful year, one that I will treasure. Thanks to all of you, parents and students, who have helped and supported all of us this year. It truly is a group effort!

All text books have been collected. Students who have lost one will be given a lost book form that must be returned with payment as soon as possible.

Special thanks to those students who are allowing me to keep their Holocaust posters for next year. We like to share these with the rising eighth graders and have them model your excellent work!

Lassiter has sent us a copy of all summer reading assignments. Students were each given a copy, and they signed a form stating that they received it. In addition, they saw the results of their Writing Assessment Test. These will be mailed home along with their report cards and CRCT scores.

Final exams begin tomorrow with foreign language/reading in the morning and language arts in the afternoon. Study and get a good night's sleep!

Have a terrific summer, stay healthy, make good choices, and work on your summer reading assignments! I will miss you all and hope that most of you will stop and visit next year. My door is always open!

Students began presenting their posters yesterday. Other than the final exam, this will be their last assignment for the year.

We have a guest speaker on Thursday in addition to a special slide presentation by Mrs. Kaplan.

Tests on the play were taken today. They are graded and posted on i-parent...or will be by 4!

We continue watching the Anne Frank movie.

We are watching the 1959 Academy Award winning film, The Diary of Anne Frank.

There is a test tomorrow on the entire play.

Act II questions are due Wednesday.

We will be visiting the Book Fair on Thursday. Anybody interested in possible purchases should remember to bring their money.

All classes have finished the play and are working on questions for Act II. A test on the entire play will be on Monday.

CRCT's are finally over, and the students (and teachers!) are thrilled!

We began our final unit for the year...the Holocaust and The Diary of Anne Frank. Students have been viewing Anne Frank Remembered, an award winning documentary that serves as an excellent foundation and introduction to this unit.
