Test on Thursday!

6th grade math students will have a test on Thursday. Tomorrow we will be reviewing in class and they will have a study guide for homework that will have problems on it that are very similar to our review problems and to the ones that will be on the test! They will also have a 'hint' sheet that tells them exactly what to study.
1. Know how to determine if one number is divisible by anther. 2. Study the word problems in your study guide. Look for words like: largest, smallest, the most and the least, to help decide if you need LCM or GCF. 3. Know if a number is prime, composite or neither. 4. Know how to use the bobsled for prime factorization and GCF, (When doing prime factorization you are doing only 1 bobsled). GCF - you multiply all the numbers on the left! LCM - list the multiples until you find one they have in common. We will be going over all this in class tomorrow and Thursday morning as well. Study!!! and good luck!

7th grade homework.

We begin working with fractions. There are two worksheets for homework

6th grade HW

Students mastered (LCM) today! The homework is to practice this skill in the workbook, lesson 5-7 Study guide #'s 9 - 20. Do this on a separate sheet of notebook paper a and list all the multiples

6th grade HW

Today we switched from factors to multiples. Sometimes this can get confusing when we are trying to find the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) and the Least Common Multiple (LCM). Tonight's HW was in the workbook lesson 5-7 #'s 1-12. They caught on quickly so many had time to do their homework in class.

7th grade HW

Practice the 'division with a remainder' on your handout sheet. We will have a short quiz tomorrow after we go over the HW.

6th grade classwork (parents can help)

We have been working on a bobsled method to find the prime factors of a number. Bobsled is a reverse division where you divide only by prime numbers. I tell the students to always write the first 7 or 8 prime numbers on top of their papers for a reminder...they all know them (2,3,5,7,11,13,17,19,23..). Today we began doing double bobsleds where we find the prime factors of two numbers and then find the prime factors that they share. For ex. if we wanted to find the GCF (greatest common factor) of 27 and 45. We first divide 27 by it's prime factors and get 3x3x3. When we divide 45 by it's prime factors (bobsled) we get 3x3x5. * you stop dividing when the last number is prime. Next we look for the 'common' numbers or pairs. There are 2 pairs of 3 so we write 3x3 and multiply. The answer is 9. 9 is the largest factor that can go into both 27 and 45 evenly. GCF=9 Sometimes you get numbers like 14 and 33. Their GCF is 1 because they share no other common factors. Tomorrow we will be learning to triple bobsled. The idea is basically the same but all three numbers will have to share a common factor! So far our class is really showing they understand this concept!

6th grade h.w.

Today we began using a double bobsled to find the greatest common factor of a number. HW is in the workbook (study guide) lesson 5-3. Do #'s 1-6. Do not use the factor tree method in the book...ONLY use the bobsled method! Please do it on a separate sheet of notebook paper so you will have enough room to bobsled.

6th grade HW

In your workbooks, do lesson 5-3 (only the study guide), only the odd numbers. Please do it on a separate sheet of note paper so it won't get crammed into the little space in the book. Remember.don't do it the way it is shown in the book! Do the Bobsled. Show someone in your house how to bobsled. Remember to use your notes if you don't remember what to do. I have placed a copy of the notes explaining how to bobsled as an attachment.

HW 7th grade 9/18

Tonight's homework is to do the handout"Wacky Waldo's Snow SHow". We are going to be spending a great deal of time deciding what operation to use when we encounter different types of word problems

HW Mon. 9/18 6th grade

Tonight's homework is in the workbook, practice page, Lesson 5-2. Do #'s 1-12 odds only! Be prepared for a short quiz tomorrow on whether a number is prime, composite or neither.

6th grade

Test tomorrow! Test tomorrow! we are ready for our unit exam on Data analysis. Ask you child about how to read bar graphs and line graphs, pictographs and pie charts. Ask them about the things that must be on a bar graph. Just to make sure we're ready, homework is a review. Textbook beginning on Pg. 560 - Do section 2-2 #4, section 2-3 #4,
section 2-4 #4, section 2-5 #'s 1 and 2, section 2-8 #'s 4 and 5.

HW 9/5/06

Tonight's homework is in our workbooks, section 2-3 (Study Guide!!). They are also practicing multiplication facts by completing their partial multiplication charts.

picto & circle graphs

we're almost at the end of our data analysis unit. We can create, read and analyze many different types of graphs. Today we were quizzed on pictographs and circle (or Pie) graphs. There will be a unit test later this week.
