It's almost vacation time! We're finishing the semester learning how to divide decimals. We went back a bit first to review long division and their memories serve them well. Tomorrow we will have a quiz on what we've been practicing. Remember to do tonight's homework on a separate sheet of paper. It can get confusing if the numbers get scrunched together.

Today we began multiplying decimals. Everyone needs to practice their multiplication tables, and remember to 'save' a space when multiplying by numbers with two or more digits. We all know now that you count the numbers to the right of the decimals in the original problem and then count that many places from the end of our 'product'. HW tonight is in the workbook section 4-1 (Practice) #'s 7-12, 28 and 29 AND section 4-3( Practice) #'s 13 - 24 ODD only. We will have a short quiz on this tomorrow before we begin 'rounding' decimals and then review long division and finally dividing decimals.

the students have been working very hard on math facts, especially subtraction. Our goal is to become proficient and work our way, beginning next week, into money skills. We will continue to follow the 7th grade curriculum as we tie in fractions and decimals with money. We also had a great time tis week "creating the centerpieces' for the holidays. The girls did a fabulous job and received many, many compliments!

We have finally completed adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. This is difficult but they all hung in there. We will continue next week, beginning with multiplying decimals and then review long division before we begin dividing decimals. We'll take this slowly and in chunks. This can get tricky when we have to estimate quotients and round the quotients to place values. Adding zero's to find the quotient can sometimes get confusing. We'll work on this for several days! We will have quizzes along the way and then have a test the week before we leave for vacation. * Steps for long division can be found in the study guide section of the workbooks, section 4.
On Friday's we have begun an accelerated math program where we review math facts at the students pace. This is a supplement to and review of our regular math instruction. The students really seem to enjoy it and get immediate feedback on their strengths and weaknesses.
