7th grade math

Today we worked on estimating and rounding numbers. In addition we continue to review word problems and lines, angles and fractions. Homework tonight is a worksheet called "Round to the nearest ten".

6th grade math

Today we began using exponents. We learned to express exponents as a product and t o express numbers as exponents and to evaluate expressions using exponents, including those with variables Students will practice this skill tonight by doing workbook section {1-6}. They will have a short quiz tomorrow on their homework problems.

7th grade math.

we began a fun unit last week. In addition to our regular goals, we are studying geometry terms, specifically lines and angles. Students are working on a project where they identify and create different types of angles (acute, right, straight and obtuse) and lines such as (intersecting, perpendicular and parallel). We will be having a test on these concepts on Friday.

Students are doing well with percents and decimals. We will finish the conversions today and then begin learning how to find a % of a number (very handy when figuring tips and sale prices!) Mostly they need to remember that (% of) means multiply!!! There will be a quiz on Thursday on changing fractions (that don't have a denominator as a factor of 100) into percents. Fridays we will continue to reinforce the weeks concepts and work on our accelerated math. Monday, the 29th we will find a % of a number and have a sort quiz. A unit test will be on Thursday, Feb 1. Then we will begin learning 'order of operations' and exponents.

6th grade math

Today we had a quiz on changing percents to fractions and back again. We went on to learn how to convert percents to decimals and back. Students understand that a percent can be made into a fraction and then written as a decimal but then they were shown the 'trick'. Thinking about the alphabet...we now that to go from a'D' (for decimal) to a 'P' for percent, you travel to the right. So going from a 'P' to a 'D', you travel to the left. Therefore, when you convert a decimal like .34 to a percent, you move the decimal point 2 places, (always 2) to the right and your answer is 34%. Likewise, if you are converting a percent such as 9% to a decimal, you move the decimal point 2 places to the left such = .09 [we assume the decimal is after the whole number unless there is one present]. Tonight's homework reviews fractions and percents as well as decimals. Homework is in the workbook [8-4] Practice 1-5 and 11-16 AND [8-5] Study Guide 1-16.

7th grade math

We are already into our 3rd nine weeks and rolling along! Students have been working on their accelerated math goals and are doing well. We continue to reinforce basic skills such as time and money in addition to the 4 basic operations. We touched briefly on fractions and percents and will revisit tis skill again as it pertains to money. Currently we are working on geometry facts such as lines and angles. Tonight the homework is a worksheet where they will identify different types of 'lines'.

6th grade math

Welcome back, I hope everyone had a restful and fun holiday break. We have started right back into full swing, continuing to multiply decimals. This week we conclude by covering zeros on the quotients and repeating decimals. We will have a test on Friday and then begin percents on Monday. Students will be learning how to convert % to fractions, % to
decimals, fractions to decimals and back again. This can get confusing so we will address each concept one at a time. I have posted a guide for you so you use it to do homework and study.
