We’re off, school started, the race to learn and grow is underway!
I'm excited this year to be teaching both 8th grade Georgia Studies and Science. Many adventures lie ahead in both areas. I look forward to a fun filled year of serious study as we explore these areas together.

BEHAVIOR DISORDERS
SMALL GROUP CLASS

The Behavior Disorders program is designed to help students with emotional and behavioral difficulties meet the academic and social demands of school to facilitate their learning. It offers students the structure and support they need in order to benefit from academic instruction. This support includes smaller class size, limited student movement, crisis management, and individual intervention plans designed and implemented in conjunction with the Mabry staff. Typically these students have moderate disabilities that necessitate their receiving specific assistance. These types of disabilities may include:
An inability to build or maintain satisfactory interpersonal relationships;
An inability to learn which cannot be adequately explained by intellectual, sensory or general health factors;
Consistent or chronic inappropriate type of behavior or feelings under normal conditions;
Displayed pervasive mood of unhappiness or depression;
Displayed tendency to develop physical symptoms, pains or unreasonable fears associated with personal or school problems.
The program also helps students with other health impairments or multiple neurobiological disorders, including:
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Autism
Free-floating anxiety
Catastrophic reactions to everyday occurrences
Inability to be consoled when upset
Unexplained panic attacks
Lack of appropriate fear reactions
Extreme mood liability
Inability to handle change or transitions in the school setting
Tourette Syndrome
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Panic and Anxiety Disorders
Depression or Bi-Polar
Integral to the program is teaching students new or replacement behaviors to make their relationships more effective or assist them in meeting the academic demands of school. This is done through a system of self-monitoring and accountability in which students rate their performance on key behavior attributes each period of the day. The attached behavior management plan provides more detailed information.
The academic program is based on the Georgia curriculum standards and adapted to meet the specific learning needs of each student. Generally academic expectations for students in the program are the same as for other students of the equivalent grade.
