Oct 24th -Oct 28th

We will continue studying Genetics this week. We will talk about Punnett Square on Monday. To reinforce the concept students will work on Sponge Bob Genetics sheet. Tuesday students will create a mind map using all the vocabulary words they have learned in this chapter. Wednesday and Thursday they will work on a project:” All in the family."

Notebook Quiz: Tuesday: Nov 1st.
Test on Ch 3 will be next week on Wednesday: Nov 2nd
REVIEW GUIDE will be given on Friday: Oct 28th and it is due on Tuesday: Nov 1st.


Objectives:
Students will define Genetics, Heredity, Traits, Phenotype, Genotype, Homozygous, Heterozygous and Allele.
Identify the factors that control the inheritance of traits in organisms.
Explain the role of genes and chromosomes in the process of inheriting a specific trait.
Use a Punnett square to predict how an new organism might look.

Friday: October 21st

We started Ch.3 Genetics on Thursday. We talked about traits, heredity, dominant and recessive alleles. We will talk about Phenotype and genotypes and review all the vocabulary words. Students need to know what heredity, traits, allele, genes, dominant and recessive alleles, phenotypes and genotypes mean.

Students will fill out the graphic organizer on Heredity using all the vocabulary words listed above in class.

This week we will start Genetics: Chapter 3, after the test on Tuesday.

Cell cycle: Oct 13th

We studied and reviewed cell cycle this week. All the students made a book on cell cycle. To review cell cycle, students had to choose one of the three activities that would meet their learning needs. Some students used beads, pipe cleaners and yarn to model the cell cycle while others created a flow chart and a pneumonic device.

Students have been given a review guide. We went over the review guide in class and students had the opportunity to correct the answers. They were also given time to organize their notebooks.
The test on Chapter 2 is on Tuesday.

Students will be tested on Chapter 2 on 18th of October. Notebook Quiz will be on Oct 17th. Make sure your notebook is organized.

Students have been learning about the stages of cell cycles.We will review the cell cycle this week.

Objectives:
Students will identify the events that take place during the three stages of the cell cycle.
Students will explain all the stages of mitosis.
Students will describe the structure of DNA and DNA replication.

Assessments:
Flip book on Mitosis
Model the cell cycle
Create a pneumonic device
Create a flow chart.

On Tuesday, to accommodate different learning styles students will choose one of the three activities that would meet their learning needs.

Students can model the cell cycle.
Students can create a time line/ flow chart of the cell cycle.
Students can create a pneumonic device to remember the steps of the cell cycle.

October 3rd: October 7th.

It is hard to believe that we are almost at the end of the first 9 weeks. We will finish chapter 2 in the next 1 1/2 weeks.
We will study about photosynthesis, respiration,fermentation and cell cycles. Please read the sections at home so you will be prepared for the class. TEST on this chapter will probably be on the 13th of October(Thursday). I will inform you if that changes.

Skills:
Students will define respiration,photosynthesis and fermentation.
Students will describe the relationship between photosynthesis and respiration
Students will contrast photosynthesis and respiration.
Students will identify the events that take place during the three stages of the cell cycle.
Students will explain all the stages of mitosis.
Students will describe the structure of DNA and DNA replication.
