Class Notes For Second Period

March 7, 2006
Today we discussed population densities and adaptions. We had to read in class, chapter 22 sections 2 and 3.

Section 2 is about population of organisms. A population would increase if birth rate increaases or there was immigration to the area, but it would decrease if death rate increases and organisms emigrated from there. All the animals around a certain area depend on food to eat and if the area lacks a certain amount of some species then the predators will die.

Section 3 has a lot to do with chapter 5. As we all recall, chapter 5 was about adpating to an enviorment. Certain animals will adapt to the enviorment, and the animals that are the best adapted to an area will survive. There are three types of interactions: Competition, Symbiosis annd Predation. Competition is organisms competing for food and space. The three symbiotic relationships are:Mutualism where both the organisms benefit, commensalism where one organism benefits and the other is neither harmed nor benefitted and parasitism. When talking about predators, predators are the ones that kill the animal, and the prey is the animal that gets killed.

We were given a packet for class, it is not homework. It needs to be completed tomorrow.
