Tuesday(September 19th)

Today in class we talked about the purpose of the "Eggcellent experiment". We continued our discussions on cell processes and the importance of Osmosis. We defined Osmosis and diffusion and then worked on the Vocabulary words from Chapter 2:Sec 1.
Osmosis and diffusion are examples of Passive transport. Tomorrow we will continue defining active transport and list some examples.

Notes on Osmosis and diffusion

Diffusion is movement of molecules from higher concentration to lower concentration.
Example: Air freshner

Osmosis is diffusion of water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane.
Example: Root cells transporting water to the stem.
Egg absorbing water during Eggcellent lab
Watering of carrots when salt was added to it.

Osmosis and diffusion are examples of Passive transport(Transport that does not require energy).

We also talked about chemical compounds.
Chemical compounds are of two types
1: Organic compounds: Compound that contain carbon
Ex. Proteins, Carbohydrate, Lipids, Nucleic acids
2:Inorganic compound: Compound that does not contain Carbon.
Ex. Water, Salt, Carbondioxide(exception)
