Today we completed a warm-up activity. We then checked the homework (pg. 203). We reviewed quadrilaterals once more by completing the definitions in our vocabulary packets. We then completed a challenging activity in class titled Angle Tangle. The homework assignment is optional. It is an extra credit opportunity. You must accurately complete Finding Measures of Angles for 5 bonus points added to your geometry vocabulary quiz. You do not need do "Extra for Experts" at the bottom of the page. The quiz will be on Friday and there will be a study session on Friday morning at 8:15 am. In the event of inclement weather and the cancellation of school on Thursday, the quiz and the study session will be moved to Monday.

Today in class we checked the classwork from yesterday: Workbook Study Guide AND Practice 5-1 and 5-2. Then, we completed notes (a graphic organizer) on 5-3 Classifying Quadrilaterals. We also completed 2 class activities with quadrilaterals : Sorting Quadrilaterals and Quadrilateral Characteristics. The homework for tonight is to complete textbook page 203 (4-19/OMIT #8). We will have a geometry vocabulary quiz on Friday and a study session friday morning before school at 8:15 am. Also, parents, I appreciate your patience as I have not yet posted last week's grades. I am working on this and hope to have all classes updated by tomorrow (Wednesday). Thank-you.
On a personal note, I apologize for not posting a blog yesterday as I was out quite unexpectedly. We had a fire at our house late Sunday night. I have told the students what happened and asked them each to check with their parents to make sure that their homes have a fire extinguisher. Fortunately, my husband remained calm and knew the location of our fire extinguisher. The scariest part was that it happened late at night (at about midnight) when normally we would have all been asleep; however, my husband had stayed awake a little later than usual, thank goodness, so he was able to extinguish it before it could have potentially become devastating.

Today I collected the Option 1 (points back for 9, 10, 11, 12) or Option 2 (test corrections). We did not get a chance to go over Real Numbers but we will do so later this week. Next, we started a new unit on Geometry. Several vocabulary words were reviewed today and we copied these in class. We then talked about protractors and how to measure and draw angles. Please be sure to start bringing a protractor to class if you did not do so today. The assignment was passed out. It is a Geometry Vocabulary Drawing Activity. This will be due on Wednesday. Today we worked on Accelerated Math. I also passed back the Chapter 9 Test. I gave the students 2 options of earning some points back on this test. They are as follows:
Option 1: Several students across the board missed some or all of #9,#10, #11 and #12. I have considered this and have come to the conclusion that this concept needs to be re-taught. So, you may choose to earn back points on any or all of these problems. They are worth 3 points each.
OR
Option 2: If you did not miss these (congratulations!), but missed other problems on the test, you may do corrections on ANY problems that you missed and earn back 1 point per correction (of course, it must be correct!)
So, decide which option will be more advantageous for you and on a separate piece of paper which you will staple to the front of your test either:
1: specify that you want points back for some or all of #9-#12
OR
2: complete corrections for any problems that you have missed
This will be due at the beginning of class on Monday. Also, please bring your protractors to class on Monday. Finally, if you scored a 73 or below on the test, be sure to get a parent signature. Have a good week-end!
