Classics are quality literature books that have "stood the test of time". Their stories have been enjoyed by several generations of readers. Bambi, by Felix Salton, is the story of a deer and his life in the woods. Read it and see why it is known as a classic.

Thursday - Mrs. Hartnett-Grade 8 Language Arts
Grade 8 Language Arts classes will participate in a fiction genre review to aid them in making appropriate genre selections required in completion of reading logs. A Promethean board flipchart will be used for this review.

Open House for parents of 6th graders is tonight at 6:30 P.M. Parents should gather in the Theater in time to begin promptly at 6:30.
Open House for parents of 7th and 8th graders is tomorrow (August 29) at 6:30 P.M. Parents should gather in the theater in tome to begin promptly at 6:30.
Students interested in being part of the Mabry News Team should get an application from Mrs. Hendrix in the Media Center.
There will be a mandatory Yearbook Staff meeting on Wednesday, August 30, in the new yearbook staff room in the 6th grade wing. The meeting is from 4:30-6:00 P.M. Students should be sure to have their ride home arranged beforehand.

Word(s) of the Week - respect for others

Students are reminded to read the dress guidelines in the agenda, and wear appropriate clothing to school.

Sixteen-year-old Ben is left in charge of the Los Coyotes Preserve near Los Angeles while his parents are in India. Animals are being systematically injured, and when a prized tiger is kidnapped, Ben determines to find out who is responsible.
Read Lord of the Kill by Theodore Taylor and discover who is targeting the animal preserve and what Ben does to protect it.

Thursday - Abrams-Language Arts 7-Genre
Friday - Miller-Language Arts 7-Genre
In order to accomplish successful reading of a variety of genre, students must understand the definition of genre, know the basic characteristics of each genre (fiction and nonfiction), and select books appropriate to the currently studied genre in Language Arts classes. After reviewing genre , students will select books that :
- Correctly match the teacher assigned genre, or student chosen genre
- Are of the appropriate individual student reading level
