In order to accomplish successful reading of a variety of genre, students must understand the definition of genre, know the basic characteristics of each genre (fiction and nonfiction), and select books appropriate to the currently studied genre in Language Arts classes. After reviewing genre , students will select books that :

• Correctly match the teacher assigned genre, or student chosen genre
• Are of the appropriate individual student reading level
