There will be a Mabry News Team meeting on Wednesday, November 1, at 8:30 A.M. in the Media Center.

The Lassiter Marching Trojan Band will present its field show in a special performance for the community on Thursday, November 2, at 7:30 P.M. in the Lassiter stadium.

Lassiter High School will host a Parent Night for all rising 8th graders on Tuesday, November 14, at 7 P.M. Parents will receive information to begin the transition to high school, as well as information about the curriculum.

The Book Fair contains titles students may read to help fulfill their 25 book reading requirement.

Grade 7 Target Science students are using Cobb Virtual Library resources, web sites, and primary documents to gather information for a research project related to Sweat Mountain Park.

Grade 7 Social Studies students are using Cobb Virtual Library resources and teacher selected web sites to gather information about various aspects of Japan and Japanese culture.

Word(s) of the Week - Accountability-The act of being responsible for your decisions and actions

This year the Mabry Reflections program had 144 entries in the areas of Literature, Photography, and Visual Arts. Each student who submitted an entry was included in a drawing for the category in which he/she submitted an entry. The following students are participation drawing winners and receive a $25 Target gift certificate: Literature-Drew M.; Photography-Katie K.; Visual Arts-Olivia H.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each category will be announced in early November.

There will be a Mabry News Team meeting on Wednesday, October 18, at 8:30 A.M. in the Media Center.

The Book Fair is here at Mabry this week. Students will be coming with their Language Arts classes to visit the Book Fair. In addition, the Book Fair is open each morning from 8:15-9:15 A.M. and until 4:30 P.M. Monday-Thursday. The Book Fair will close at 1 P.M. Friday afternoon.

Media Center Classes October 9-12, 2006

No classes are scheduled to come to the Media Center for instruction this week. The Media Center staff is working on catalog corrections in preparation for the transition from Athena to Destiny, the new automation system scheduled to begin December 1.

Teachers may still schedule classes in for research or computer use. Students may also come in to check out and return books.

Friday, October 13 is a holiday for students.

Announcements for October 9, 2006

There will be a Mabry News Team meeting on Wednesday, October 11 at 8:30 A.M. in the Media Center. The first WKNN broadcast will be Thursday, October 12 at 9 A.M. Teachers should tune their TVs/cable connections to Channel 6.

The Mabry chapter of the National Jr. Honor Society will meet tomorrow at 8:30 A.M. in Mrs. Ridlehoover's room. All current members should plan to attend.

The Mabry Environmental/Science Club will meet Wednesday, October 11 from 8:15-8:45 A.M. in room 7D2.

The Book Fair comes to Mabry next week, October 16-20. Flyers will soon go home with students.

Friday - Mrs. Miller-Grade 7 Language Arts-Internet searching and safety

Effective, efficient, and safe internet searching is crucial to student academic and personal success. Grade 7 Language Arts students will discuss how to select an appropriate search engine, evaluate a web site, and protect privacy.

Mrs. Glenn's classes will discuss the research process, utilizing research help sheets designed by Mrs. Hendrix, and based on the Flip-It! research model created by Alice Yucht. Steps include selecting a topic and formulating a thesis statement, taking notes and creating bibliography/works cited cards, formulating search strategies (both on the web and with other media), evaluating web sites, using primary and secondary resources (including the Cobb Virtual Library).

Students are reminded that Reflections entries must be turned in to the Main Office by the end of the day Thursday, October 5, 2006. In addition to entries winning 1st or 2nd place in each category, students who enter the contest will be put into a drawing for $25 gift certificates.

There will be a Mabry News Team meeting on Wednesday, October 4, at 8:30 A.M. in the Media Center.

Mr. Doemel will hold tryouts for the Mabry Symphony orchestra this week. Students should see him to arrange a tryout time. Symphony practices will take place on Thursday mornings, beginning October 12.
