Each class was divided into 2 groups. Group 1 will start with reading the book on Mexico and group 2 will do the assignments in the textbook. You will be given 3 class periods to complete the group 1 assignment, and 3 to 4 days to complete the group 2 assignments. IF YOU WERE ABENT TODAY YOU ARE IN GROUP 2, so start the first assignment for group 2.
Each group will work independently, so it is very important to stay on task. You will be tested on Mexico when both groups have completed reading the booklet on Mexico and we have class discussions on certain topics about Mexico.
When you are working on the group 2 assignments, you will take the quiz for each section after you complete the different section assignment. For example when you finish taking notes on 4.3 you will take the 4.3 quiz.
Group 1
Read (pg.4-43) and take notes on the Book Mexico: Country Connections. Use the given guide pages to take your notes.
Group 2
Read 4.3 pg.96-101, Panama, and take Two Column Notes.
Read 5.1 pg.107-112, Cuba, and take Two Column Notes or Power Notes.
Read 5.2 pg. 113-117, Haiti, and do page 117, #1-5.
Read 5.3 pg. 120-125, Puerto Rico and do pg.125, #1-5

Let me know what type of project you want to do tomorrow. I will give you some guidelines for the project on Thursday.

Using your notes from the videos on Guatemala, Peru, and Brazil. Compare and Contrast what life is like for the three children in each of those countries. If you were not here on Friday, just compare and contrast life in Peru and Brazil. If you were absent today, then compare and contrast your life to the life in Guatemala.
Chapter 3 test will be on Thursday the 15th.
The Essay is Due Wednesday Feb. 14th.
The following are guidelines for writing a Compare/Contrast essay:
Introduction
Your introduction — should open generally (with a quotation, anecdote, generalization), and lead into the thesis statement.
All Comparisons (Topics 1,2,&3)
This section — which should consists of several paragraphs — should go through all similarities you find in the three topics on which you are writing. There should be at least four comparisons (essentially four short body paragraphs) in which you give an example from both topics of comparisons in each.
All Contrasts (Topics 1,2,& 3)
This section — which should consist of several paragraphs — should go through all differences you find in the three topics on which you are writing. There should be at least four contrasts (essentially four short body paragraphs) in which you give an example from both topics of comparisons in each.
Conclusion
This conclusion is wrapping up everything you have just proven in your paper. It should restate the thesis in a new, more official way, and you should feel quite confident in your writing.
