Students wanting to submit paper for Reflections contest, need to type essay MLA Style: Heading, 12 font, New Roman, double spaced. NO CONTRACTIONS
Contest entries due Wednesday next week. Please see me if you do not have access to a computer.

The beginning paragraph should get your readers attention and identify your topic-your favorite place.
Here are two ways to get started:
- Put yourself in the description. You can do this by serving as the narrator. Tell how you feel about the place.
- Begin with background information to help your reader better understand your topic.
Find an interesting way to begin your essay and introduce the reader to your favorite place. DO NOT begin with ;My favorite place is...

EQ: What are the steps of the writing process?
EQ: What are the elements of an effective paragraph?
EQ: What should I know about descriptive words?
!. Reviewed organization of personal narrative paragraph: Topic Sentence, Body and Closing Statement.
2. Reviewed writing process. We spent time last week choosing our topic, gathering details, and writing our first draft.
3. Revised using a thesaurus. We discussed the concept of connotations. (big elephant, enormous elephants)
Scholastic Book Club: Volunteers needed to place order.
CHECKS MUST BE MADE OUT TO SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB.
NO CASH ACCEPTED.
HOMEWORK:
Spelling worksheet; front and back. Direction reviewed during class. Do not write sentences.
Complete narrative essay draft and revisions. We will write final copy in class.
