9 week requirement:7 books read (Summer Reading+ 150 pages for book credit)
Example: 3 summer reading + 600 pages documented (4 books credit) = 7
Ticket will be given for any total above 7.

Students have until FRIDAY to turn in logs if book count is below 7.

We shared great beginning, and endings. We all were impressed by the quality of the essays. I can't wait to read them.

Remember,each class will have
First, Second and Third Place winners.

Peer editing. Final paper is due Monday or Tuesday. Can be handwritten or typed .MLA format.

Students wanting to submit paper for Reflections contest, need to type essay MLA Style: Heading, 12 font, New Roman, double spaced. NO CONTRACTIONS

Contest entries due Wednesday next week. Please see me if you do not have access to a computer.

Week of September 11

Monday:
EQ: What are the steps of the writing process?

EQ: What are the elements of an effective paragraph?

EQ: What should I know about descriptive words?

!. Reviewed organization of personal narrative paragraph: Topic Sentence, Body and Closing Statement.

2. Reviewed writing process. We spent time last week choosing our topic, gathering details, and writing our first draft.

3. Revised using a thesaurus. We discussed the concept of connotations. (big elephant, enormous elephants)

Scholastic Book Club: Volunteers needed to place order.
CHECKS MUST BE MADE OUT TO SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB.
NO CASH ACCEPTED.

HOMEWORK:

Spelling worksheet; front and back. Direction reviewed during class. Do not write sentences.

Complete narrative essay draft and revisions. We will write final copy in class.

TUESDAY:
EQ; What does legible mean?
Why is presentation important?

1. Review presentation standards. Write final copy of personal narrative.

2. DEAR / some logs will be checked.

HW: Summarize a movie, a television show,a book or a story. Tell who, what,where,why or how.
