Warm Up: Grammar Workbook (Simple, compound sentences)

Topic Sentences and Focus Statements reviewed

Outline for Compare Contrast: Daily Grade

Students tried three ways to begin introductions: Ask a Question, Personal Experience, Interesting Fact and Dramatic Scenes.

Introduction and First Paragraph should have been completed during class. If not, students should take home to finish. Remember to write every other line and put each part on a separate piece of paper.

We will finish writing Middle Paragraphs tomorrow.

Grammar Workbook pages 83-84.

Today we wrote our topic sentences for our middle paragraphs. They must introduce the topics: Physical Characteristics, Diet, and Habitat.

Focus Statement: Last Sentence of Introductory Paragraph. Must give a preview of paper.

Tomorrow we will complete outlines and write the introductory paragraph.

Week of March 19-23

Sorry- I have had problems posting this week!

Daily Oral Language Worksheets are to be completed, checked and kept for the quiz we will have in the future. Please keep and study.

We are beginning our Compare/Contrast Essay. Students are to choose two similar animals that they will write a Compare/Contrast Essay about.
Rubric will be given before we begin the project Monday. We will spend one day in the MAC Lab prewriting and gathering information.

Students that do not have the minimum number of books logged will be checked periodically over the next few weeks. By mid-quarter, students need to have logged 22 books toward the 25 book goal.

Compare/ Contrast Essay Topics : We will make an essay comparing two animals. They must be in the same 'species'. Science teachers will clarify. Students are asked to find two animals they would like to do their paper on by Friday. We will be in the Mac Lab next Monday, making a visual organizer and researching animals.

MONDAY MARCH 12

WELCOME BACK FROM JEKYLL!!

We had so much fun, and now we are back to our schedule...

Today
1. Warm Up:Daily oral language worksheet

2. Turned in our Jekyll work done last week. If students were absent, please be aware that work needs to be completed and turned in by Wednesday.

3. Non-fiction oral report. We reviewed the requirements for the project, worked on notecards, and outlines.

4. Book Logs are due tomorrow. 19 books should be documented for this year. Our goal is 25 books for the year. This grade is 10% of the Language Arts grade.
