I have made a tenative schedule for our classes. This will give all of you an opportunity to get ready for your Canadian project and see our timeline for presentation work.

Tentative Schedules

Week of April 23rd-27th


Monday: Canada – Population Distribution –Partner work

Tuesday- all tasks from Webquest – climate, natural resources, etc. Partner work.
How do these geographical themes define a place?

Wednesday - Choose a territory or province for your presentation. /
Homework – Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday- gather at least four sites and materials that you can read about your province or territory. This counts as four homework grades. This is due Monday, April 30th.


Thursday and Friday- Australia-Continue sections of Chapter 7.


Week of April 30th-May 4th

Monday-Bring in articles you intend to use for your presentation. Note: Not the poster board, just the written articles and pictures.

Tuesday-Time given in class to read articles, highlight information of interest and citing your resources.

Today we will continue to work on our Ancient Civilizations compare and contrast. You will receive a Venn Diagram for this assignment. We will use the information from your chart organizer, notes from the Inca civilization, and your book for this assignment.
Make sure your notebook is in order. Check the Table of Contents on the Board.

Tomorrow, we will begin building a timeline highlighting events of these civilizations. Next week, we will take this information and use the Timeline program in the Mac Lab.

I hope everyone had a restful weekend.
Essential Question: How would you apply your knowledge of latitude and longitude to given locations?
This week we will concentrate on longitude and latitude. There is a quiz on Thursday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will cover longitude and latitude. Last year, we were tracking Hurricane Katrina. Using what we learned, we were able to have a better understanding of the storm's track and its implications. Thankfully, we can work on a more pleasant assignment this year.

Today we are beginning our Russian Rulers' Timeline. The students will use the information given to make a timeline. Hopefully, we will use Timeliner on Thursday. Here is the criteria:

1. Date for the timeline is the date they came into power.
2. Each timeline entry must have two-three facts regarding their time in power.
i.e. Catherine the Great - 1762
2a. She had schools and hospitals built
2b. She expanded Russian territory by going to war with the Turks.

This weekend will give you an opportunity to prepare for our Wednesday and Thursday project. Please get a brown grocery bag. Read 3.2. List five items that you could use in your presentation. For example, a plastic fish or a colorful piece of cloth. The bag and items are to be brought in on Wednesday. Wednsday, you will write a one page presentation of one of the island cultures. Wednesday night you will type or rewrite the presentation. Thursday, you will attach the report to the bag, decorate the bag and practice your presentation. Today was a busy day! We checked assignments. Thanks to all who completed their drafts on Cortez. Some of you have submitted your final paper. On Friday, the final paper on Cortez is due. You will have a rubric to evaluate your project. Some classes finished their mini biographies on South American leaders and others began to work on vocabulary for Bingo. The eighteen words are taken from 2.3, 2.4, and 2.5.
Today a group a six students collaborated and came up with a fabulous plan for next Wednesday and Thursday. They will present the introduction tomorrow in each class. Don't forget if you were absent last week, your assignments are due tomorrow.

December 19th

International Day was a success. Thanks to all who brought in food, drinks, and paper goods. I also wish to thank the parents that stayed to help.

This week we will have an overview of the Inca, Aztec, and Mayan civilizations. We will use the Latin America book and have videos on the civilizations to view. There will be extensive note taking during the videos. We will use this information for a large Venn diagram comparing the civilizations. If you are absent, you will need to come in early and view the video. If you are not able to do so this week, you will have an opportunity when we get back from our vacation.

This week each student will have an opportunity to present his(her) contribution to The Lost Arts Museum. Six students a day will each have three minutes to make their presentation.

Students working on the newspaper article will have any opportunity to complete final product.

Chapter 2, Section 3 will be done in t-note format. Quiz will be given Wednesday.
Chapter 2, Section 4-Using data from this section, students will create a children's story about the history of Canada. A narrative form will be used while staying true to the facts.

September 28th

I hope everyone enjoyed their "snow days". The map test scheduled for Monday will be given Friday.

Wednesday, we will review 1.3. Since we covered this material last week, we will have a quiz on Thursday. I am giving a homework assignment that will be due next Monday. It will count as two assignments.

Thursday, I will hand out the study guides for the Chapter One test. We will review in class. Next Tuesday will be the Chapter One test.

September 19,2005

We had a great study session today. Tomorrow we will have a quiz on 1.2. Study tonight. I will check your work on the Constitution tomorrow.
On Wednesday, we will work on our map of North America. We will identify twenty locations and color in the landforms. This will be a study guide for the North America map test next Monday.

September 12th

Overview of the week. Essential Question: What factors influence the climate in Canada and the United States?
We will use a great program from Rand McNally in conjunction with our books this week.

Reminder- Tuesday we are having a quiz on 1.1. Please use the study guide that we worked on last Friday.
This week we will cover 1.2 and have a special presentation on the Constitution.

September 5th

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend. This week we will have our Five Themes of Geography test on Tuesday. We will also issue your States and Canada book on Tuesday. We are very fortunate to be able to go to the Media Center for two days this week. We will overview Canada and do several activities online. I will put on the sites after we go to the center for review.
