Our students will be sampling them on October 31st. If you would like to purchase some of these candles please contact any of our chorus students as they will be most happy to sell you some or contact Mrs. Smith. All State Chorus

I would like to thank all of you for doing a great job at your auditions Saturday. By taking a peek at the judges scoring sheets you now know what areas you still need the most work for next year's audition. We had scores that varied from high to low. Remember, the lower your score the better chance you have of getting into All State. The perfect score is a "10". Keep watching the website to find the cut off scores. We won't know them until every child in the state has had his/her audition. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we have many that make the cut. I will post the cut off scores for those that make All State Chorus as soon as I get word. I am just as proud of each of you for trying as this is not an easy audition.

General Music Classes

All of my general music classes were given a syllabus to take home and get signed by a parent today. Each student needs to have a notebook (duo-tang folder) with 10-12 sheets of lined paper and a pencil in class for tomorrow. Please help them to get these items for the start of the 9 week period.

Our first unit of study will be the voice for 6th & 7th grade classes and stage parts and terms for 8th grade drama. We're off to a good start.

I will offer a final All State Chorus help session tomorrow, October 12th at 8:15 a.m. in the chorus room. Please bring your sightreading material, your song and CD accompaniment. I will do a mock audition for all of you tomorrow and show you an actual grading sheet. If you will give me your phone number tomorrow I will call you on Sunday with your score.

For the audition on Saturday, October 14th:
Dress nicely in school attire.
Be at Woodland HS 30 min. prior to your audition time.
The audition should only take 15 min. if there isn't a wait.
Check in at the cafeteria. Make any corrections to voice part or spelling of name at the corrections table.
Bring with you your CD accompaniment and know which track you are using.
You can bring in your music & your scale sheet but do not give it to the judges.
They will not give you any indication of how you did at the audition. I will give you your score on Monday or call you if I have your phone number.
Get plenty of sleep and drink lots of water. Good luck and don't be nervous!

You need to be at each rehearsal in order to have your music learned and memorized by the concert date, November 16th.
Check former blog dates for concert attire. Make sure that you have your concert attire for the first concert in November.
You are all sounding great and I can't wait for your parents and the other choral groups to hear your progress.
Keep up the good work.

We will begin our holiday songs in the next week or two. Come and find out what they are. See you on Tuesdays!

All General Music Classes

We are studying our final unit for the 9 weeks on Musicals.
The 6th grade is studying "The Music Man"; 7th grade is studying "Oliver" and the 8th grade is studying "Westside Story". We have been comparing the musical to a novel or book in similarities and differences. This includes the character descriptions, plot, conflicts/resolutions and inferences. I will be sorry to see these students move on to their next connection class as they have all been a joy to teach.

All State Students

All State Students:
Your time for the first audition on Saturday, Oct. 14th is in the chorus room plus directions to Woodland HS. You will need to bring your CD accompaniment with you but do not give the teachers your photocopy of music. If you need to look on your sheet for the scale steps major, minor and chromatic you may also use this at the audition. Make sure that your song is memorized and that you are using the proper phrasing, big breaths, dynamic control and good diction. This will help to give you the better score. Remember a perfect score is a "10" and goes up from there so the lower your score the better. Some of you I have not seen at practice so please come this Thursday at 8:15 a.m. in the chorus room and we will review everything one final time. This is not an easy audition so you must put a lot of effort into all aspects of the requirements. If you are prepared you will do well. See you all next Thursday and practice hard this last week. You are each responsible for getting to and from the audition so make arrangements now.

Honor Chorus Participants

The mixed chorus music and folder is in. Please pick your music packet up from Mrs. Smith and put your name on each piece of music. You will be responsible for learning all of this music. If it is in a foreign language please look at the front page of your music where there is a pronunciation guide for most of them. This will show you how to pronounce the words. I am hoping that the treble music will be in shortly. I'll post this info on my blog when it arrives at school. I should also be getting a CD for each group to help you learn your part. I'll make a copy for you after I receive them.

The location for Honor Chorus will now be Mount Bethel United Methodist Church on Roswell Road. Thursday evening practice on Nov. 9th 5:30 and all day on Nov. 10th register at 8:30 a.m. You must provide your own transportation to and from this event. I will give your child a handout with all of this information on it as well as the address of the church.
