6th grade General Music Classes

We are in the process of studying the things needed to know in order to read a musical score.
In this unit we are learning the lines and spaces, note and rest values, time signatures and sight-singing numbers.
On Valentine's Day we created some new lyrics to some familiar tunes and presented them to the class.
We will be reading musical scores and playing the bell sets next week.
We may even have time to create a song on the bells.

For examples:
--

Here are a few samples of their creativity:
#1 to the tune of "Mary Had a Little Lamb"
Pearl had a lovely boy, lovely boy, lovely boy.
Billy had a lovely girl and her name was Pearl.
Everywhere that Billy went, Billy went, Billy went.
Everywhere that Billy went, Pearl was sure to go.
Billy and Pearl got married one day, married one day, married one day
Billy and Pearl got married one day. They loved each other so.
(Tune: "We're All In This Together")
Pearl and Billy loved each other so much that after they got married they ate Hershey Kisses.
After that Billy gave Pearl a rose and kissed her nose and said "I love you" Yeah
by: Jenny E and Marcie M

#2 by Amanda P-B, Beth B. and Rachel B
So, I'll tell you who I love, who I really, really love.
So tell me who you love, who you really, really love
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna,
I wanna really, really, really, really say, I love you.
If you want to be my Valentine, You gotta buy me stuff
Nothing lasts forever but love me, don't you bluff. Repeat from the top.

#3 Original song and text by Hunter Y.
Valentine's Day is a wonderful day.
A day of giving, candy and love.
The time has come, we all give a few and a few give some.
Love is a gift and it comes once a year, so cherish the moment.
Let it take you away, for love is a passion, Cupid is watching, arrows are flying
for Valentine's Day is here.

#4 (Tune: Jingle Bells by: Mary B and Rachel S)
Valentine's Day, Valentine's Day, Valentine's Day is here
Love is all around you and the boys all think you're cute. Haa!
Pink and red, pink and red, pink and re-eh-ed.
X and O's mean love and kisses this special day of the year.

#5 (Tunes: "We Fly High", "Fergalicious" and "Walk It Out" by: Melissa C. Ally E. & Tamilore)
We love you. No lie. You know it. Lovin'
Lovalicious chocolate
Lovalicious chocolate
Lovalicious chocolate
Choc, choc, choc, choc, choc, choc, choc
Lovealicious chocolate
Make 'em boys go craz;y
Eastside love it out
Westside love it out
Northside, love it out. Out!

Drama Projects 8th grade general music class

Today the drama class (general music) was given a project sheet with many choices in which to choose. The due date is Feb.16th.
You may create a shadow box of a musical scene or a play scene
You may collect articles on current broadway or theatrical events from the newspaper, magazines etc. and write summaries on them to share.
You may watch a musical other than The Music Man, Oliver or Westside Story and write a complete summary of the characters, plot, conflicts/resolutions, and whether or not you would recommend it to others.
You may research an actor or actress and write about their early childhood, teen years, adult years and accomplishments in the acting field.
The reports must be typed and have a cover page and a bibliography with it.
This counts as a major project grade so do your best work. Do not procrastinate!!!
