Cancellation of Morning Podcast

I am so sorry but I will not be able to have an early morning pod cast session on Wednesday. I will see you on Thursday though.

Pod Cast Central

Hi All,

I am not going to be in school tomorrow, Wednesday, but I will be there in the morning to let you work on your pod cast. In other words, I will be there from 7:00 a.m. until 8: 20 a.m. I will return on Thursday. With a substitute, you cannot work on the computers so the due date has changed to Friday when class ends. I will also be checking the study guides on Thursday, not Wednesday.

Tomorrow in class, you will be given the class time to work on the study guide individually, not with a partner. We will review them on Thursday as well as review for the test. There will be a study session on Thursday morning so pod casters, you will be able to work on your project but I will not be available (mentally) for questions. I will be concentrating on the test material.

If you have already finished your study guide, there is an additional lesson that you will need to do in class tomorrow. Looking over your study guide is also a very nice suggestion that could result in a great test grade. Just thought I'd throw that idea in for you to think about.

Have a safe Halloween and don't eat too much candy. Oh, I love chocolate...or anything sweet.

See you tomorrow early birds and the rest, Thursday.

BOO!!!

Whew!!!

Well, it is almost over. The podcasts are due on Wednesday. I think the students have had a good time with this project. I am hoping they have learned a few details along the way. I will be at school by 7:00 tomorrow as well as Wednesday. Please, if at all possible, don't come any earlier than 7:10. That gives me a chance to open my classroom door and get the computers. Also, if you have head phones, BRING THEM!

There will be a mineral test on Friday. I handed out the study guide today and it needs to be completed by Wednesday. I will then return them on Thursday and we will review the answers. Don't wait until the last minutes to study or complete the guide since I will have it Thursday night. The vocabulary is very important to know.

Remember, try the website for your book again. If you think you only have a literature book, scroll down and keep scrolling down. The science book is at the bottom. The answers for the study guide can be found in the book of course as well as your workbook that we have already completed. If you want to come in early to use a book for the guide, feel free to do so. The biggest piece of informational help I can give you is to apply what you know to what is being asked on the test. Know the vocabulary and relax. Many of the test questions answer themselves somewhere else in the test.

The test will be true/false, multiple choice, fill in the blank and short answer using the Mohs Scale of Hardness for minerals.

After these past two weeks on the podcast project, we are behind so we will need to double time it to keep up.

See you tomorrow.

Missing Information

Hi All,

My blog is finally working again and I can keep you up to date on what is taking place in class. The students have finally clicked where the podcasts are concerned and are working really hard on them. Thank you to all the parents that have brought your children early so they can stay ahead. We will be working on them next week and hope to finish by Wednesday. I will be here every morning by 7:15 so if the students need to be here, I will be glad to monitor them while they work. I can't wait to see all the finished products.

Next week I will be giving them a study guide so they can begin to fill it in for the mineral test that will be on Friday. We will be reviewing on Wednesday, Thursday and then the test on Friday. From all they are learning about the structure of their birthstone and minerals in general as they complete their podcast, they should do great.

I still need for each student to try and get onto the text book on line. I know some have said only the literature book is there. I think the problem may be that they are not scrolling down far enough to see the science book. You will need to scroll down a fair amount to get to it. Please, try again.

Well, for now, that is it. I will blog as more happens.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Science Book on Line

I am so sorry some of the students are having trouble with getting the book online. We are still trying to get the wrinkles out of the system. I want you to email me when you have homework or can't get on the site and need the information. I will email it to you as an attachment. Hopefully, this problem will be short lived and then we all can get on this site easily.

The workbook has been reviewed and it will serve as your study guide. The mineral test will most likely be next Wednesday or Friday. Keep studying.

If you don't know my email address it is, carol.sumrell@cobbk12.org .

Pictures for Podcast

If you have pictures for your podcast from books or other paper sources that need to be scanned for use, please have them to me next week. Also, please get your internet pictures and music ready next week. It has to be with you on the 23rd. Remember, this will be fun but I understand the work involved. That is why this project will be counted as 2 test grades. The best of each class will be shown to all the other classes and the best three of all I will try and have put on the Mabry Blog.

Email me with questions.

Big Project to Prepare For!

Parents and Students,
You received today a layout of what you need to research on your birthstone. You MUST have this finished by the 23rd. Once you walk into my room on the 23, you have to be prepared to start your podcast, This includes your music, information and any pictures you have found. Using a memory stick is your best bet for saving this information, so it can be loaded onto your podcast. This project is a lot of work and so it is worth 2 (two) tests grades. It will be a lot of fun as well as long as you have done your background research. Do not depend on your partner having it done. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR OWN RESEARCH COMPLETED AS I WILL BE TAKING IT UP!

If your parents are not sure what a podcast is, check out my blog under archives, August. You saw it today in class.

You also received your science workbooks. Make sure your name is on it in multiple places and you keep up with it. If it gets lost, you are responsible for and expected to buy a new one. You only receive on free one a year.

If you had trouble with the book website, please try again.

For those that are responsible enough to read the blog, if you bring in the name of a song and the singer of this song that applies to your birthstone, you will receive 3 extra points on the next quiz we take.

Have a great weekend.

Tuesday night Homework 10/3/06

You received a packet today on minerals. You will be having a vocabulary test on Thursday. This is only the vocabulary we highlighted today. You heed to read your packet and highlight what you think is important. Tomorrow, we will be reviewing that part of the packet as well as the worksheet, Treasures from the Earth.

I can not stress enough how important it is that you read this packet. If you are not aware of the material we are studying, it is difficult to have meaningful, learning instruction. Having this background knowledge makes class and labs easier and purposeful.

We will be doing a mineral research on your birthstone so begin getting some background information about it. Start off with knowing what your birthstone is.

Parents, Quick Reminder

Dear Parents,

Please make sure to fill out the Performing Arts Field Trip permission slip for October 9, 2006. Without it, your child will not be able to attend. Also, if they have not turned in their performing arts attendance slip from the beginning of the year, they will not be able to attend. Chaperones are still needed so if you are interested, contact your child's homeroom teacher.

Also, all conferencing verification slips need to be returned as well. We need to get our schedules confirmed and ready for the week of October 16th.

Thank you for helping us with these details.

Minerals

I hope everyone was good today. I had to be out of the classroom but was thinking about you. Remember, you need to bring the classwork you didn't finish today to class tomorrow. We will work on it together. Also, bring any questions you might have from today's lesson.

I am working on getting your tests graded. It is taking longer than I expected due to some of your handwriting. PLEASE, if you have trouble writing neatly, type your papers. At least slow down so I can make sure to give you all the credit you deserve. Remember, if I can't read it, it is wrong.

I will be back in class tomorrow. We should be getting the book code for our text book soon. That way, you will be able to review at home. Until then, I will continue to provide packets that you need to keep.

From now until the end of the monty, start collecting any interesting and unusual rocks. I have lots of mica in my yard and I am sure you do as well

If you have any questions, please email me.

See you tomorrow,
Mrs. S.
