This week was shortened due to the holiday. In order to maintain our work-out schedule we did circuit all 3 days this week. Please remember to bring towels to Fitness on Tuesday and Thursday of next week for our Yoga and Pilates lessons. We look forward to welcoming back our guest teacher, Andrea Knight, who did a wonderful job with these lessons last 9 weeks.

We have completed the regular season and begun playoffs in our Volleyball unit. Teams are playing well and below are the top offensive and defensive teams per class.
These are regular season statistics:
7-1 Offensive leaders with 70 points scored: Da Bait 4 Da Fish
Defensive leaders with 38 points allowed: Da Bait 4 Da Fish
7-2 Offensive leaders with 76 points score: Coo Coo Cachoo
Defensive leaders with 46 points allowed: Coo Coo Cachoo
Teams are selected by the students with a gender rule imposed by me: 3 boys and 3 girls. In some cases a team might have 1 extra player depending on class make-up. Teams may only play with members of their team and must play short due to any absences.

This week was shortened due to the holiday, but students still received a great deal of information on Body Systems. There will be a quiz and a test next week over this information.
Check back tonight for a study guide. Students of the month will also be announced next Friday.

Students participated in circuit training, speed and agility drills, and took their muscle quiz on Thursday. The muscle information will be tested one more time before the end of the 9 weeks in the form of a scantron test. We will have a Yoga and Pilates instructor in on 2/27 and 3/1. Students will need to bring a beach towel to class on those days.

Students finished up their dance unit last week with an original dance created by their group. Many of them were very good! This week began our Volleyball unit and students are learning positioning, passing, setting, and serving underhand/overhand. Once students have a base of knowledge for skills we will have a tournament in class.

Students have completed the Nutrition & Fitness chapter and are well into the tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs chapter. We have watched videos, done demonstrations about the harmful effects of smoking, seen the effects of smokeless tobacco, and will use the "drunk googles" early next week. OTC medication projects are due Monday. Each student was given a grading rubric on exactly what is expected of this project.

The students will receive project forms tomorrow on exactly what was expected of this project. I will try to post a copy here soon. Essentially, they must create an original over the counter (OTC) medicine. It can be for anything they want (within reason). No steroids or anything that would have a negative effect on someone (you'd be surprised at the ideas I have been asked about). These are do Monday and will be graded on the criteria included on the project sheet. Feel free to assist them and have fun.

Your students will participate in the smoking demonstration tomorrow. There is a possibility they may smell a little like smoke. Be advised this demo was done outside and out of reach of the students but within sight. They were shown the staining effects of cigarette smoke and allow to smell the cotton balls (if they wanted) to simulate the smell of smoke in the clothes, home, and/or car. Every precaution was taken to ensure the safety of your student during this demonstration.
