Students completed Chapter 2 and had a test on Tuesday. We also checked journals on that day. It is vitally important that students use the class time given to complete journal entries. We began the Nutrition and Fitness chapter on Wednesday with Supersize Me. The video ran until Friday upon which time students had to write a page about it. HAVE A GREAT SPRING BREAK!!!

We have completed our Baseline Fitness Assessment in the Fitness Lab and will begin circuit training early next week. Baseline Fitness Assessment consists of starting measurements for various components of fitness (see link list below). The students will also receive instruction on fitness concepts such as Muscular Anatomy, Muscular Physiology, Cardiorespiratory Fitness, and more. It is my hope that every student will show improvement in nearly every category upon End of Course Fitness Assessment. Please check this blog weekly for 8th Grade Fitness updates.

This week students completed Chapter 2 (Taking Care of Yourself) and took a quiz. They began group projects about being a wise consumer. Groups are to use "quackery" ( making false claims ) to sell their product. Projects will be presented on Monday. Many groups have gone above and beyond utilizing PowerPoint, DVD, VHS, and Promethean boards for assistance in marketing their product. Next Tuesday will be the Chapter 2 Test. The study guide is posted as "CORRECT STUDY GUIDE" and students should each have their own self-created study guide. Students printing the study guide and filling it out will receive extra credit on the test.

This week we have been working out of our Human Growth & Development workbooks. This Cobb County approved curriculum concentrates heavily on making wise decisions, choosing friends, and being self-aware. Many of you are aware of the specifics with the take-home parent interviews that they have done over the past few days with you. Be aware that absolute deadline for any late work to be accepted is Monday, March 12. Next week there will be no blog. However, we will be finishing up in the H G & D workbooks. Thursday is the last day of the 9 weeks and Friday your students will be in a new connection and no longer in Health. It was great teaching them!

This week we had a guest instructor come in and teach a Yoga class on Tuesday and a Pilates class on Thursday. Most students seemed to enjoy learning about something new. We also did our normal circuit training, which will be coming to an end shortly with EOC fitness testing.
