Today we read, ate pie and discussed "pi", and worked on Accelerated Math. All classes were awesome! :)
A special thank you to all who were able to bring in either pie or other supplies.
Your "homework" is to be SAFE and have FUN over Spring Break.

Today the students brought in home-made playdough and we made 3-dimensional shapes. We then used dental floss to slice parts of the 3-D shapes to see what kind of cross sections could be made.
I want to thank ALL of the classes for an excellent day! You were on task, we had fun, and we learned. Thank you!! :)
Tomorrow is "Pi Day".....a little late, but better late than never! If you volunteered to bring in a pie, forks, plates, etc, please come to my room first thing in the morning. In class tomorrow, we will be "eating pie" while we work with "pi" in Accelerated Math.

Today we learned about cross sections of 3 dimensional figures through an interactive web site. The web address is listed below.....check it out!
http://www.learner.org/channel/courses/learningmath/geometry/session9/part_c/index.html
HW:
Make Playdough (recipe given in class today and is below) or bring in a small can of playdough to make 3-d shapes and slice cross sections for tomorrow! Bring in 12 to 18 inches of dental floss.
Playdough
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 tablespoon Cream of Tartar
1 tablespoon oil
1 cup water
(food coloring optional)
Bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Add oil and food coloring. Add all other ingredients. Turn down to medium heat and stir constantly until it becomes thick (only takes a minute or so) and forms a ball. Let cool on a plate and store in an container (plastic bag/plastic container).

1st, 2nd, and 3rd Periods:
Today we discussed 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes and we looked at different nets and predicted what their shape would be. We also brainstormed on how to take a 2-dimensional shape, and through different transformations, predicted what type of 3-dimensional shapes would be created.
HW is the worksheet handed out in class today.
4th Period:
Students got their Unit test back today and completed their Test Analysis. Get this signed tonight and return tomorrow!
HW: complete problems 10 - 19 of long division worksheet.

Today we learned how indirect variation applies to word problems. We took information, charted it, graphed it, and discovered the equation for indirect variation: y = k/x.
We then learned how to solve simple word problems involving indirect variation. Class notes and homework are below....
4th Period:
I gave you back your quizzes and then we learned how to solve indirect proportions. Class notes will be posted and homework is the handout given in class.

Today we applied direct variation/direct proportion to solving word type problems.
HW is the enrichment worksheet 9-4 handed out in class today.
4th Period:
Your HW is textbook page 447, problems 21-32. If you can solve the problems the "easy way", do so and then also write the direct variation equation. If you solve the problem using cross products, then do NOT write the direct variation equation.
