Thank you for visiting your language arts blog!
This week you will continue the research process and move forward with your investigation of your disaster topic.
MONDAY:
You will carefully view the rubric for your written report; and for homework you are to have it signed so your parents are aware of the due date for your research paper.
Be sure and write the due date on the research calendar I provided.
Today, you will write a reflection note to let me know how you are doing on the research process.
Books on disaster topics may be checked out, beginning today; they may be checked out for one-day, only, and they must be returned before you go to your homeroom the following day. This will make the books available during the week for students in other classes. The following schedule will be used for checking books out:
Monday: Period 1
Tuesday: Period 2
Wednesday: Period 3
Thursday: Period 4
Students in any class may come during locker break, at the end of 4th period; if there are any books available, you may check a book out—regardless of what period you are in (First come, first serve).
Spelling Quiz is today (Lessons #13 and #14).
You will do Daily Oral Language grammar and punctuation study, today; the test will be on Thursday. Note this in your agenda.
You have a "certificate" for nonfiction article reading to have signed over the weekend. The certificate, if signed by your parent(s), counts as one book toward your 25~Book Goal.
You have an assignment in your literature textbook today:
Read and take notes on the article "Reader Beware" on page 502~505.
ESSENTIAL QUESTION:
How does the information from this article pertain to the research you are currently doing?
On page 504 of your literature textbook there are sites listed for you to explore more about "Evaluating Internet Information."
TIP:
Take advantage of opportunities to show you are the type of student that goes beyond the call of duty.
THINK:
How can you SHOW you went to one of the sites and read the information?
REMEMBER:
Take charge of your KNOWLEDGE WEALTH and BUILD YOUR ACCOUNT!
TUESDAY:
Today's primary lesson with be about parenthetical citations.
See how sharp you can be; build your personal background knowledge by investigating the topic on your own. If you bring materials in and have read and studied this topic, I will have some small groups working independently on a special project. You must have a wealth of knowledge, however, to do this. :)
Check in tomorrow for more information about this week!

Thank you for connecting with your language arts blog.
Below is a fantastic site to visit for research information. There are examples for making citations and guiding tips for you as you begin to work on your paper.
It is from the Write Source Home Page.
Another way to find this site is to use Google and type in "Write
Source"
Today or tomorrow we will be viewing the class set of Write Source to see what information it has about the research process.
For your convenience, we have arranged to have this book available through the Mabry store ($20.00).

Thank you for checking your language arts blog!
Remember you are to carefully fill out your agenda each day and include class work that is not complete AND homework assignments.
Extended directions should be noted in your new folder for the winter quarter.
Listening and taking notes is key to being a top notch student. By now you should not have to be told to write important items that may be forgotten. You have six classes you are trying to keep up with and note taking is a life skill that will help you be among the most successful.
Monday:
We went to the media center and continued working on research disaster topics. This was our fourth day in the media center. You have had access to books on disaster topics and access to using computers.
You are to write one or two highly related facts on each card. You were to have had a total of 25 note card when you came to class today. You will need 35 by tomorrow. Most of you stayed focused and were able to complete the 35. If you did not complete them, then it is your homework assignment. There will be a check tomorrow.
You should by now have copied two or more articles and these should be read and highlighted for important information. Write key words in the margin to match the "slugs" you would use on your cards. To receive full credit for these you must have Tuesday.
Tuesday:
You should have 35 fact note cards for your topic.
A handout on what the first page of a written MLA report looks like was added to the research packet.
On Tuesday we have DEAR reading. You should have documentation that show your reading for the week.
Spelling Lessons #13 and #14 discussed. There will be a quiz on Monday over #13 (odd) and #14 (even) words.
Today, we read and discussed topics from the Research Guide Books.
DOL Sentences were recorded in folders. There will be a DOL test on Tuesday of next week.
Literature Assignment:
Carefully record this assignment from the homework assignment board in your agenda. Your literature analysis assignment will be due on Thursday.
NOTE: Writing notes in your agenda is a skill that is very important. This blog does NOT take the place of your responsibility to copy assignments from the board.

For homework, refer to your agenda each evening AND investigate the following sites for guidance. Reading to learn is part of the research process; reading ABOUT how to do research is an important part of this study. Carefully review the items below and use your "Close-Reading" strategies so you can apply the information and knowledge:
RESEARCH GUIDE:
You will need the research booklet that Cobb County uses. Download this and bring to class January 17 or 18. (If you have computer problems and cannot do this, bring a note from your parents to varify to avoid a No Homework Deduction.)
Go to the following site to download. Keep this packet in your research folder.
