This week's focus topics are as follows:

The reading of The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. This novel will count as one of your 25 books.

We will read this novel as a writer and focus on characterization and conflict as we analyze and write in response to literature.
The Outsiders takes place during the 1960 and we will do an enrichment study of this exciting decade.As we read the essay, a little at a time during class, I will be showing you a wide variety of note-taking strategies that will serve as helpful note-organizing tools in high school and college.

Although I have a class set of The Outsiders, you may wish to have your own copy to highlight important parts.

Remember:

Study for spelling quiz (Column #1 of "Commonly Misspelled Words.")

WARNING:

Do not assume you know how to spell these words. A good strategy is to have someone give you a practice test and then carefully check to see if you spelled each word correctly. Highlight the words that need practice.

Due Friday:

"Four Types of Paragraphs" Although we will be chatting about four types of paragraphs, the focus will be on the persuasive paragraph.

For CRCT review . . .

This week we will zoom in on sentence structure (Complex, compound-complex sentences and if time permits~irregular verb tenses.

For MLA tips we will zoom in on how to use numbers when writing prose.

Bring your grammar workbook with you each day this week.

A reminder about the blog . . .

This blog does not take the place of your daily agenda that should be carefully filled out. You are to copy the assignment(s) down daily and jot down memory jogging notes each day.
This is an important life skill that should be practiced and mastered to stay organized. It is important to listen in class, take notes, and refer to your notations in the evening. "It was not on the blog," is not to be used as an excuse for coming to class unprepared.

Most of you are doing very well keeping up with your assignments!
