La Famille

The French classes did a class project: La Famille (the family). In this podcast, Chanel describes her family in pictures, writing, and with the podcast, orally. The project was first created as an iPhoto album, converted into a movie, and, finally, developed into a video podcast in which you hear Chanel introduce you to her family. Enjoy!

Top Mabry Readers Take Home Nano and Shuffles

Georgia state law requires each middle school student reads 25 books each year. The majority of our Mabry students greatly exceed that goal. Hundreds read over 50 books, and many students even came close to 300 books read and documented in 1 year!

This podcast features the top reader in each grade level. Of these three students, the one (Katherine, 8th grade) with the highest number of books read and correctly documented on the Mabry reading logs received an iPod Nano. The second highest (Wade, 6th grade) received a 240 song Shuffle. And the third highest (Chelsea, 7th grade) received a 120 song Shuffle.

Listen to these students talk about their reading, their favorite books and authors, and how to pick interesting books.

Mission Possible I

On May 3rd, in Podcast Central, I published Mission Possible. Our objective was to award an iPod Nano to the student whose essay, designed to help students excel at Mabry next year, was the best. The contest was so close we just had to have three winners! An iPod Nano was awarded to Katie (pictured). Two students, Katie1Gretchen and Kyle, tied for second place just just one point less than Katie!

This podcast, by Katie, is the first in the series, Mission Possible, from our three winners. Students and parents both, listen carefully to Katie's excellent advice on how to achieve our school goal. If you follow her advice, I guarantee you will have even greater success at Mabry! We are making each of these mp3 podcasts so the students can actually download themselves into their new iPods!

Congratulations to all of the students who participated. Everyone submitted excellent entries!

A Mabry Mom Shares

NadineA parent of 2 Mabry students shares what her families experience has been at Mabry Middle School. She shares her ideas about community and about volunteering and contributing to her childrens' school experience. She gives advice to parents new to our school. She talks about what our listeners all over the world need to know about our school. We have posted podcasts from students, teachers, and administrators. This is the first from one of our parents whose contributions to our school community make a positive difference for everyone's child.

Third Nine Weeks Student Art Work (VP)

We love to post student work at Mabry, and our Art teacher probably puts more student work up on bulletin boards around the school than anyone else. The work our students produce is so beautiful, she eagerly shares it with everyone in our school community.

But why not share it to a much broader audience? This third video podcast of student art work at our school is posted to our new Worldwide Bulletin Board. Now our students can share their work with their friends and relatives all over the world!

Enjoy!

Mabry's Band Festival Performance Three

Band in Washington
The music program at Mabry is widely respected. Our students and their teachers work very hard to attain a level of mastery and artistic expression rarely found among students this age. I have often bragged on their dedication and hard work as well as their commitment to making our world a better place by creating exemplary expressions of beauty.

With great pleasure and pride, I present this third of three podcasts of our 8th grade band's performance at the District 12 Middle School band Festival--Awakening Hills by Richard Saucedo. The band received superior ratings and "A"s from all 8 judges. Mr. Alfred Watkins, head band director at Lassiter High School, stated that this was the best middle school band performance he has ever heard.

Mission Possible!

With just a few weeks left in the school year, I want to remind all of our students to do their best work and to accomplish our school's mission statement, which I shared with you on the second and third days of school this year. In fact, I made our students a promise in those meetings at the beginning of the school year.

I stated that when you least expected it, I would post a podcast that would tell you how to compete to win an iPod Nano. This podcast, entitled Mission Possible, gives you the directions on how you can compete for the iPod Nano. Follow them carefully.

Good luck!
