Mrs. Rand
Mrs. Jackie Rand is one of outstanding special education teachers. She graduated from Jersey City State University with a BA in Special Education and from Georgia State with an MA in School Counseling. This is the beginning of her 15th year teaching Special Education. Mrs. Rand taught 2 years in New Jersey and 12 years in Cobb County and is beginning her 3rd year at Mabry. She says that, "I know my best years of teaching are still ahead of me."
Teaching Special Education is Mrs. Rand's passion. She enjoys her students immensely and looks forward to coming to work everyday , knowing that she will make a positive diffference in a child's life.
Both of her children, Michael and Jennifer, were very athletic. Many of her best times were spent in school gymnasiums, on the baseball, softball, and soccer fields, as well as on the tennis courts. She says that she could never tell anyone where the main office was in any school, but she always could give directions to where the particular sport was being played. The summer of 2006 has been a memorable one for Mrs. Rand’s family. Her son, Michael, was recently married in July to Meredith, of Alpharetta. And her daughter, Jennifer, graduated from nursing school at Kennesaw State University.
Mrs. Rand and her family have enjoyed participating in many community activities, to list a few: Pinch Hitters, The Jewish Home, The Homeless Shelter and Project Openhand. It was important to Mrs. Rand that we list her dog's names-----Lexi and Bentley and I have 3 grandpups. Their names are Chanel, Charley and Maggie. She wants them to be able to see their names up on the internet! :o)
When she is not in the classroom, Mrs. Rand enjoys spending time with her family, playing with her pet children, reading, music , tennis and traveling. Mrs. Rand has been heard saying, that her 3 years at Mabry have been her "happiest years of teaching." She has always been happy working at other schools, but she has felt a great sense of pride being an instrumental part of beginning a new program at Marby Middle School. She has always held dear the "love letters" from her students and parents. And when she didn’t think things could get any better, her peers voted her 2005-2006 Teacher of the Year. What an honor!
