He earned his doctorate at the University of Illinois and has been in the field of education for over 25 years. A technology enthusiast, Dr. Tyson began the Mabry Film Festival, when he arrived at Mabry in 2001, as a way to help teachers and students infuse technology into highly engaging learning practices for students.

When he is not traveling, reading, dabbling with photography, digital video, or on the computer, he enjoys arranging and composing music. In fact, most people don't know that he is a published composer. He values creating more beauty in our world in all of the many different forms it can take.

He believes that the most beautiful thing in the world, which is closest to his heart, is helping children reach their highest potential. He challenges students to work hard and do their very best, to strive, to learn and to achieve, to create knowledge and solutions, and to rigorously pursue goals with the utmost integrity so that our world will be a better place for everyone.

Mrs. Jonie Cason teaches 8th grade science and has been involved with some form of education for the past 27 years. Most recently, she taught chemistry and biology at Paulding County High School. Mrs. Cason received her BS degree at the University of Tennessee at Martin and her MEd degree from the University of Memphis. She spent her first summer out of college working as a laboratory assistant at the University of Tennessee Medical Center researching dental toxicology before beginning 12 years of teaching there.

Mrs. Cason helped open a magnet school for medicine and engineering with the Memphis City School System. She enjoyed working in the Memphis Wildflower Garden and with the Sierra Club and Audubon Society on environmental projects. Her work saved a large urban park from becoming an interstate highway. Mrs. Cason met and married her husband, Will, in Memphis and when their son, Kevin, was born she taught chemistry, anatomy and biology at Shelby State Community College in the AD nursing program.

In 1985 they moved to Chicago as a result of Will's agri-business job. Kevin was in kindergarten and Mrs. Cason was a volunteer at his elementary school and at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois. She was a substitute teacher and became a biology and physical science teacher at North Community High School in Downers Grove. To not see the ground for 3 months in winter was a shock to this southern belle. When Will's job took them to Kansas, she was glad that winter was 2 weeks shorter there. In Kansas City Mrs. Cason worked at an inner-city, alternative high school for former dropouts, where she taught high school science to grades 9-12. Mrs. Cason developed the hands-on, self-paced curriculum for the school.

After a short stay in Tampa, Florida, Will's company moved us to Georgia. Kevin was able to spend all 4 years of high school at Marietta High School. Mrs. Cason's husband and she worked in the touchdown club and the takedown club as a result of Kevin's love of football and wrestling. For 2 years she was a private tutor for On Location-Education which works with young people in the entertainment profession. It was a fun job that often took her to a recording studio. Shortly afterward she began teaching at PCHS.

Mrs. Cason is an avid reader and belongs to a women's book club which has been together since 1985. She lives near the Kennesaw battlefield where she enjoys gardening and birding. She has a small greenhouse that allows her to work with plants in the winter, and for several years she was supplier of the indoor plants at her church. We are glad Mrs. Cason joins our Mabry family.

Mrs. Trish McCrery teaches 8th grade Math. After staying at home for the past three years to raise her two young children, she is very excited to be returning to Mabry Middle School. She previously taught 8th grade math at Mabry for 2 years before her daughter was born. Prior to that, she taught 6th and 7th grade math at Smitha Middle School for over 6 years. Originally from the Midwest, she grew up in Galesburg, Illinois. After attending Southern Illinois University for two years, she transferred to Knox College where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Educational Studies. She then moved to Atlanta to begin her teaching career and received her Master's Degree in Middle Childhood Education from Georgia State University.

She enjoys staying active with activities such as tennis, running (she is currently training for the Thanksgiving Day Half-Marathon), and keeping up with a 6 year old boy and 3 year old girl. "That's the best exercise ever!" Last year she challenged herself both physically and mentally and completed the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk. "Walking 60 miles in three days was much more difficult than I thought it would be. It was a life changing experience in so many ways." Her family also enjoys traveling, and they try to fit in a ski trip every winter. Her favorite college football team is the Auburn Tigers (her husband's alma mater). Other activities she really enjoys include reading and cooking. Spending time with her family, though, is definitely a priority each and every day.

She always knew that she wanted to be a teacher. "I used to 'play school' with my siblings and friends when I was little, and I was always the teacher. I also had a very special 7th grade teacher whom I deeply admired. I truly hope that I can be as much of an inspiration to my students as she was to me."

Ask her about her childhood on Blue Ridge Lake and she will wax nostalgic. Mrs. Pettett has a BBA in marketing from Georgia Southern University and sold computers for Burroughs Corporation before the advent of the personal computer. After the birth of her two sons, she remained a stay-at-home mom while teaching aerobics, substitute teaching, and teaching preschool. She has taught in Cobb County for 13 years with nine of these years spent as an instructional technology specialist. She loves curriculum and sees marketing and teaching as closely related - with teaching selling the excitement of learning.

Mrs. Pettett enjoys riding her bike and can be found on the Silver Comet Trail on the weekends. She also enjoys walking her dogs, camping and gardening. After her yearly camping pilgrimage to the Great Smoky Mountains, with her husband of 27 years, she eagerly looked forward to joining the Mabry staff.

Mrs. Glenda Glenn teaches 7th grade Advanced Content Social Studies. She has served in a variety of capacities, including working for eight years as an Instructional Lead Teacher before coming to Mabry a second time.

Mrs. Glenn builds her course content delivery around a CIA theme that she calls the Glenn Intelligence Agency (GIA) where students conduct global investigations using higher level thinking skills. She is also the Social Studies coordinator for Mabry.

After years of taking students on European tours, Mrs. Glenn embarked on several international educational exchanges of her own including Australia, Russia, Germany, and a Fulbright Memorial Teacher excursion to Japan. During these exchanges she lived in the country for a month- visiting the schools, touring, and enjoying cultural experiences.

Her passion is teaching and developing challenging, differentiated lessons for students. She's been nationally recognized several times for innovative curriculum development including the Sidney P. Marland Award from Johns Hopkins University and the prestigious Leavey Award for Excellence in Private Enterprise Education. She has also been recognized as a Georgia Outstanding Social Studies Educator.

Mrs. Glenn has carefully crafted her career so that she could teach children and adults. Intech, Models of Integrating Technology, Tech Connect Online, and Hone Your Presentation Skills are a few of the staff development classes she has taught to teachers. She is an instructor for the CCSD Gifted Endorsement classes and has developed an online portion in Blackboard. She has also worked as an adjunct professor at Kennesaw State, Brenau and Mercer universities and is currently on the Middle Grades Advisory Board at KSU.

The field of gifted education is most meaningful to her as she was one of the first teachers in the state of Georgia to receive gifted endorsement in the 70s, thus giving her three decades of experience with the gifted learner.

She has been involved with technology with the Cobb County District for the past 9 years and has been at Mabry since 2001. She manages all of our technology at Mabry, which is no small task . Not only does she keep up with what is where and when, she also keeps all of our desktops and laptops happy. She works miracles.

She is married to Jerry for 22 years and has two sons, Christopher who is a sophmore at KSU and Tim who is a senior at Woodstock High School. Both boys have kept Jerry and Jo-Anne very busy with baseball over the last 15 years.
